Corning, California Shooting Targeted Children

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The shootings are being considered "random," at this point, but further investigation may expose a pattern.  The morning shootings at multiple locations in and around Corning, California of Northern California included a location near an elementary school.  So far, the death toll is listed at four, which includes two children.  The killer was stopped, and his life terminated, by the police responding to the call.

Corning is a couple hour drive north of Sacramento in a sparsely populated area.  The shooting scenes total out at seven, with 100 law enforcement personnel involved in the investigation.  Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston states that at this time, it is believed the gunman was "randomly picking targets," and that there may be more victims.

While Governor Jerry Brown in his immediate statement did not politicize the shooting, stating that  he and his wife are "saddened to hear about today's violence in Tehama County, which shockingly involved schoolchildren. We offer our condolences to the families who lost loved ones and unite with all Californians in grief," I suspect the super-majority of Democrats in Sacramento are already dreaming up more gun control legislation that would not have stopped this shooter, had it been in place.

Vice President Mike Pence also offered his condolences, tweeting "We commend the effort of courageous law enforcement. We'll continue to monitor the situation & provide federal support, as we pray for comfort & healing for all impacted."

Our prayers go out to those who have been affected by this shooting.
