Over 300 Killed in Terrorist Attack, Sinai, Egypt

In the Sinai region of Egypt a terror attack has claimed over 300 lives, and has left 128 injured.

Hours after the massacre, the Egyptian military initiated airstrikes on terrorist locations believed to be associated with the terrorists who carried out the bloodshed.  Several vehicles used in the attack had been located, targeted, and bombed.

During the slaughter people were jumping out of windows and the mobs were trying to stampede to safety, mowing down children and the slow in the process.

The terrorists were shouting "Allahu akbar" as the attack was being performed, amidst the screams of children.

The attack targeted a mosque frequented by Sufis, members of a mystic movement within Islam not accepted by other sects of Islam.  The Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS consider Sufis to be heretics because of their less literal interpretations of Islamic writings.

Egypt has been in a state of emergency over that last year, as Islamic jihadists seek to spread violence not only against Sufis, but Christians, as well.  They have been targeting with bombings various churches in Cairo and other cities.

A local Islamic State affiliate in Egypt is also believed to be behind the 2016 downing of a Russian passenger jet that killed 226 people over Sinai.

Islamic jihad by Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS affiliated groups have increased in Egypt since the removal of Mohammed Morsi from power in 2013 - who was directly answering to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The internal war has been largely carried out through surprise attacks, mostly targeting outposts and convoys - and other military and police facilities.  As all of this has been happening, journalists and independent investigators have been disallowed from being in the area. The Muslim Brotherhood jihadists have also assassinated a large swath of targeted individuals because it was believed those persons were spies for the government or religious heretics.  Egypt has also faced attacks by jihadists in its Western Desert.
