Schiff Lied, Liberty Died, Biden (and gang) is Corrupt

Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

The average person only knows that the Democrats are claiming that a conversation between President Donald Trump and the President of the country of Ukraine is supposed to be grounds for impeachment.  The Democrats finally have something that sticks, and a devastating interpretation of that phone call by Democrat Representative Adam Schiff (CA) was the final, convincing evidence needed.

Except, Schiff lied, and the evidence shows otherwise.

We know Congress-critter Schiff lied because the transcript of the phone call has been released, and there is nothing in it that supports any of Schiff's claims.

Last Friday, President Donald Trump was quick to respond on Twitter, tweeting that Schiff should resign not only as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, but from Congress.

If he refuses to resign, the House of Representatives should expel him.

"Adam Schiff therefore lied to Congress and attempted to defraud the American Public," Trump said.

Schiff introduced his comments at last Thursday's committee hearing by saying he would be outlining "the essence of what the president communicates," not providing "the exact transcribed version of the call."  In other words, he admitted at the get-go that he was going to render his own interpretation of the call.  The Democrats think that is his out, that he wasn't lying because he admitted at the beginning it was not word for word verbatim, yet, Schiff's version of the call is being treated by the media as if it is a verbatim transcript.  It's a game being played.  It's like saying, "This isn't really what happened, but I want you to believe this is what happened, and I expect you to believe it is what happened, but if I am attacked, I admitted it isn't really what happened."

What kind of Orwellian double-speak, new-speak, language shuffling is that crap?

After everyone took Schiff's remarks as being the gospel truth, and after the media ran with it, to his surprise the Trump administration released the transcript immediately.  He was caught in a lie and he knew it, so he played the game.  He did not make clear which words he was taking directly from Trump's comments in the rough transcript, which words were his own analysis, and which words were meant to be the comedic "parody" he later said he was intending.

So, as a high-profile part of a hearing on Thursday, and a key member of the Democrat party's push for impeachment, he gave us a "parody" regarding the transcript?

The thing is, the presentation was intended to be believed.  It was intended to be the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.  It was intended to establish in the public eye anger against our President.

While Schiff called the President's role in the conversation with the Ukrainian president "a classic organized crime shakedown," which, by the way is a subjective matter of opinion, the reality is that the accusation regarding using political sway to influence Biden's Ukrainian prosecutor situation, or to "make up dirt on my political opponent," is a bunch of hogwash.  It was never said.  The transcript confirms such.

Even CNN admits that.

Trump did not tell Zelensky to "make up dirt" on Biden.  Trump did bring up Biden, saying that "There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it...It sounds horrible to me."

Hardly the smoking gun the Democrats claim to have.

The alleged whistleblower complaint alleges that Trump instructed Vice President Mike Pence to call off a planned trip to Ukraine, and alleges that it had been "made clear" to US officials that "the President did not want to meet with Mr. Zelensky until he saw how Zelensky 'chose to act' in office."

The whistleblower's account is nothing but hearsay, as even the Democrats admit it's based on second-hand knowledge according to the whistleblower.

During the hearing, Republican Rep. Mike Turner criticized Schiff's comments, saying that "sometimes fiction is better than the actual words or the text."

"But luckily the American public are smart," Turner said. "They have the transcript. They've read the conversation. They know when someone's just making it up."

Like every American, I deserve to meet my accuser, especially when this accuser, the so-called “Whistleblower,” represented a perfect conversation with a foreign leader in a totally inaccurate and fraudulent way. Then Schiff made up what I actually said by lying to Congress......
His lies were made in perhaps the most blatant and sinister manner ever seen in the great Chamber. He wrote down and read terrible things, then said it was from the mouth of the President of the United States. I want Schiff questioned at the highest level for Fraud & Treason.....

According to the Daily Signal, on July 25 there was indeed a phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and in the conversation the two leaders did talk about an investigation involving Joe Biden and his son.  But, contrary to Democrat Party claims, "Neither man, however, mentioned military aid to Ukraine that might hang in the balance."

The White House released the complete official transcript less than a day after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced an official impeachment inquiry, based largely on the suspicion that Trump had threatened to withhold military assistance from Ukraine unless it looked into the dropping of an investigation of the then-vice president’s son, Hunter Biden.

The younger Biden sat on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas company for several years, reportedly making $50,000 a month. The elder Biden, vice president under President Barack Obama from January 2009 until January 2017, boasted on camera that he was responsible for the firing of the state prosecutor investigating the company.

Both leaders referred to “Biden” in the call, but didn’t use the first names Joe or Hunter.

Beyond fodder, or lack thereof, for House Democrats’ impeachment effort against Trump, the transcript also reveals the two leaders’ unflattering comments on Germany, the European Union, and Russia.

Now, imagine, if you will, that this phone call had been between a Democrat and Zelenskyy, and the politician's son dabbling with a venture capital company in a land where he has no experience with what he was doing nor spoke the language was not Hunter Biden, but Eric Trump or Donald Trump Jr.  Do you think the narrative, and how it is being handled would be different?

The hypocrisy is what really gets me.

Now, let's think about all of this.

Rudy Giuliani, one of Trump's personal lawyers, but a member of the private sector, now, was already all over the Hunter Biden situation, and former Vice President Joe Biden criticized Giuliani's role ... so much so that, it is thought, Giuliani canceled his trip to the Ukraine.  Meanwhile, Zelenskyy's new party in Ukraine’s parliament, "Servant of the People", had just won a historical victory in that country, and it was four days after that major victory.  Should not our president be on the phone with the leader of that country after such a grand victory that is seen as being a move in the right direction for Ukraine and a solidification of our ability to have an alliance with them?

In the phone call Ukraine’s new president didn’t mention Biden’s name.  However, he did refer to Biden by mentioning that one of his aides had recently spoke with one of Trump’s personal lawyers, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, despite Rudy not being able to go to the country and meet with them personally.

That said, Giuliani not only had a phone call with a Ukrainian official, which was, by the way, before the July phone conversation between Trump and Zelenskyy that the Democrats are slathering at the mouth over, but he did indeed meet with a Ukrainian official in early August, shortly after the call, to discuss the Biden case.

“I will personally tell you that one of my assistants spoke with Mr. Giuliani just recently and we are hoping very much that Mr. Giuliani will be able to travel to Ukraine and we will meet once he comes to Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said to Trump.

No monkey business.  Nothing about military aid, or any other favors.  Just a mention that the conversation had happened.

“I just wanted to assure you once again that you have nobody but friends around us,” the Ukrainian president said. “I will make sure that I surround myself with the best and most experienced people.”

Later on in the conversation, after Trump explicitly mentioned Biden, Zelenskyy said, “I wanted to tell you about the prosecutor.”

On the surface it appeared that Trump was appreciative to hear this, and said he wanted to get Attorney General William Barr involved.

“Good because I heard you had a prosecutor who was very·good and he was shut down and that’s really unfair,” Trump said of events regarding Joe Biden's own manipulation of the situation that occurred well before Zelenskyy’s April 21 election. “A lot of people are talking about that, the way they shut your very good prosecutor down and you had some very bad people involved.”

“Mr. Giuliani is a highly respected man,” Trump continued. “He was the mayor of New York City, a great mayor, and I would like him to call you. I will ask him to call you along with the attorney general. Rudy very much knows what’s happening and he is a very capable guy. If you could speak to him that would be great.”

While, as the conversation continued, there was discussion that Biden's son was being talked about a lot, and that there was talk about Joe Biden stopping the prosecution, and that "Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it. … It sounds horrible to me," there were no promises, and there were no points of misuse of his office as President of the United States.

In short, he was not throwing his weight around as President, or making political promises or threats with foreign leaders that could be considered outside what should be going on.  That's what the Democrats have a history of doing.  In other words, this whole thing stinks of lies and deception, and is actually a case of projection, where the Democrats are trying to project onto Trump what they normally do.

For example, Biden bragged to a group of foreign policy experts in early 2018 that as Vice President of the United States he had threatened in March of 2016 to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid if Ukraine’s government did not fire a prosecutor who was investigating the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma, where his son Hunter was a board member.

Talk about something smelling rotten.

Biden told the gathering, January 23, 2018, “I said, ‘You’re not getting the billion.’ I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.’ Well, son of a b—-, he got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.”

Okay, Schiff said Trump used organized crime (another way of saying "mob-style") shakedown tactics, but to me, it sounds like that mafia-style tactics award of "look, see, I'm gonna give you a deal you can't refuse" should actually go to Joe Biden.

In the phone call, Trump told Zelenskyy, “I will have Mr. Giuliani give you a call and I am also going to have Attorney General Barr call and we will get to the bottom of it. I’m sure you will figure it out. I heard the prosecutor was treated very badly and he was a very fair prosecutor so good luck with everything.”

It was simply an honest statement without getting into any weeds like the Democrats claim.

Zelenskyy then explained to Trump that the prosecutor will be 100% his guy, and it'll be better than before.

Elsewhere in the conversation Trump did talk about aid to Ukraine, separate from the Biden portion of the conversation, in the context of other nations not doing their part to help the former Soviet republic who is doing what it can to reach for the promise of freedom, and, well, draining their own swamp.

Zelenskyy complained that other countries are not putting sanctions on Russia, which annexed the Crimea region from Ukraine and has been engaged in a slow-burning war with Ukraine for five years.

They did not speak favorably of the Western European allies or the European Union, and in fact was especially critical of Germany.

“I will say that we do a lot for Ukraine. We spend a lot of effort and a lot of time. Much more than the European countries are doing and they should be helping you more than they are,” Trump said.  "Germany does almost nothing for you. All they do is talk and I think it’s something that you should really ask them about. When I was speaking to Angela Merkel she talks Ukraine, but she doesn’t do anything. A lot of the European countries are the same way."

Okay, our allies probably aren't going to be fond of what Trump said, but they usually aren't, anyway.  But, again, this part of the conversation was not associated with the Biden portion, and was simply an observation of what it is going on regarding aid to Ukraine, not a promise or a threat regarding aid.

Trump continued, "So I think it’s something you want to look at but the United States has been very, very good to Ukraine. I wouldn’t say that it’s reciprocal necessarily because things are happening that are not good but the United States has been very very good to Ukraine."

Zelenskyy agreed that Trump was “absolutely right” and said he agreed “100%.”

“I did talk to Angela Merkel and I did meet with her. I also met and talked with [French President] Emmanuel Macron and I told them that they are not doing quite as much as they need to be doing on the issues with the sanctions,” Zelenskyy said.

The Democrats don't like this, because deep down Russia has never been an enemy to them.  They've always admired Russia, and going back to Senator Ted Kennedy during the Reagan years, a democrat who was in contact with the KGB in the hopes of derailing Reagan, and you can even go back a hundred years, for that matter, have always had their hand in the cookie jar when dealing with the communists who used to (and still do, in my opinion) control that country.

Zelenskyy continued, "They are not enforcing the sanctions. They are not working as much as they should work for Ukraine. It turns out that even though logically, the European Union should be our biggest partner, but technically the United States is a much bigger partner than the European Union and I’m very grateful to you for that because the United States is doing quite a lot for Ukraine. Much more than the European Union, especially when we are talking about sanctions against the Russian Federation."

Of course, the real Democrat hope is that they could also tie any conversation Trump has with any foreign leader to their fake "Russian Collusion" narrative.  I am not saying the Russians did not try to meddle in our 2016 Election.  They are our enemy.  It is a given that they are always trying to meddle.  Hell, for the last hundred years they've had well-placed spies in our government and entertainment industry that was such a problem that eventually a committee regarding "un-American Activities" emerged in the 1950s in the House of Representatives (of which the Democrats hatefully refer to as the "McCarthy Era" or "Era of McCarthyism").  Why would they stop, now?  That said, the meddling was never something that the Trump team got involved with, and if anything, as we've seen constantly in history, it was the Democrats wading in the muck with the Russians.

In the conversation with the Ukrainian leader, Trump mentioned one of the investigations regarding Russian meddling in our 2016 U.S. presidential election.

“I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike,” Trump said. “I guess you have one of your wealthy people … The server, they say Ukraine has it.”

In 2016, the Democratic National Committee hired CrowdStrike, a U.S.-based internet security company. CrowdStrike reviewed the hacking of DNC computers and determined it was conducted by two groups affiliated with the Russian government.  That was dragged into the Democrats' claim that Trump or his campaign conspired with Russians to gain advantage in the 2016 election. Special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report said investigators found no such conspiracy.

Essentially, the Democrats have said, "we have no evidence of your collusion with Russia, Mr. Trump, but we are intent on punishing you for daring to resist being punished for it."

In the call with Zelenskyy, Trump referred disparagingly to Mueller, who had testified to Congress the day before on his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.  It was recent news, and a public occurrence that everyone had access to witness, so since it was newsworthy it got brought up in the conversation.  There was nothing sinister said, and again there were no promises or threats regarding aid as it related to the topic.

"There are a lot of things that went on the whole situation,” Trump said to the Ukrainian president.  "I think you’re surrounding yourself with some of the same people. I would like to have the attorney general call you or your people and I would like you to·get to the bottom of it. As you saw yesterday, that whole nonsense ended with a very poor performance by a man named Robert Mueller, an incompetent performance, but they say a lot of it started with Ukraine."

Like Trump, before his election as Ukraine’s president, Zelenskyy had no political experience.  He simply got involved, and campaigned against corruption of the political establishment to unseat incumbent Petro Poroshenko with about 73% of the vote. The similarity between the two current leaders was a point of commonality, and was also brought up in the conversation.

“We all watched from the United States and you did a terrific job,” Trump said. “The way you came from behind, somebody who wasn’t given much of a chance, and you ended up winning easily. It’s a fantastic achievement. Congratulations.”

Zelenskyy's response was almost Trump-like.  "Well yes, to tell you the truth, we are trying to work hard because we wanted to drain the swamp here in our country. We brought in many many new people. Not the old politicians, not the typical politicians, because we want to have a new format and a new type of government … You are a great teacher for us and in that."

Zelenskyy is anti-establishment, and wishes to dismantle any shadow government hold by the worldwide leftists in his country, and that has the Democrats, and their globalist buddies on the world stage, foaming at the mouth with anger.

Which brings us back to Biden, and his son.  The very situation that had Hunter Biden, former Vice President Joe Biden’s youngest son, drawing a massive income while serving on the board of directors of a Ukrainian oil and gas giant (with no experience in the industry and having no clue about the local language spoken) epitomizes the kind of political influence in the world of private corporations that Trump has been combating.  And, it is nothing new.  The younger Biden has a history of getting rich from entities tied to his father, and in participating with the crony-capitalism (politics and corporatism favors game) that everyone has come to be disgusted by.

The probability of political corruption by daddy Biden is almost inevitably likely to be true, as a result.

We must ask how the younger Biden was appointed to the company’s board of directors in the first place.  Is it a case of hiding the truth of the leftists' role on foreign shores, and enriching themselves through corruption?

When all of this came to light, the Democrats were quick to act on what they could do to put out any fires.  Hunter Biden’s own business partner, Christopher Heinz, the stepson of former Secretary of State John Kerry and co-owner of an investment firm with Hunter Biden in 2014, rushed to play damage control with State Department officials at the time of the appointment, according to internal emails obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The Daily Signal continues to explain, "Adding to concerns is the fact that at the time Hunter Biden joined Burisma, the company was seen as actively courting western leaders to prevent further scrutiny of its business practices. The same month Hunter Biden was tapped for the group’s board, the government of Great Britain froze accounts belonging to Burisma founder, Mykola Zlochevsky, under suspicion of money laundering. Zlochevsky, a former Ukrainian minister of natural resources, would later be accused of corruption for using his office to approve oil and gas licenses to companies under his control.

"Joe Biden’s role in the entire matter has only increased suspicions of conflicting interests. As the sitting vice president, Joe Biden led the Obama administration’s response to the Russian invasion of Crimea in 2014. In that role, he pushed billions of dollars in aid to the Ukrainian government, some of which allegedly was filtered to Burisma.

"More troubling, however, is an episode that took place in 2016, when Joe Biden pressured the Ukrainian government to fire Viktor Shokin, the country’s top prosecutor.

"Officially, the former vice president has claimed his threat to withhold U.S. aid to Ukraine if Shokin was not fired came from the Obama administration, which had lost confidence in the prosecutor’s abilities to root out corruption.

"Unofficially, though, it was well known that Shokin was investigating both Burisma and Zlochevsky for wrongdoing. Regardless of the reason, Shokin’s successor closed the investigation into Burisma and Zlochevsky, allowing the oligarch to return to the country after having fled in 2014.

"The appearance of impropriety on the part of the Bidens has also been underscored by the inability of father and son to get their stories straight. Last week the former vice president claimed to never have discussed his son’s business ties with Ukraine during a campaign appearance in Iowa."

“I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” Joe Biden angrily said, before pivoting the conversation to Trump’s alleged misuse of power.

The former vice president’s claim, though, directly contradicts his son’s on the topic. The younger Biden admitted during a series of candid interviews for a New Yorker profile published in June that he in fact had discussed his foreign business interests with his father on at least one occasion.

“Dad said, ‘I hope you know what you are doing,’ and I said, ‘I do,’” Hunter Biden told the magazine.

"Since making his initial statement in Iowa, Joe Biden has reverted back to his long held position of refusing to discuss his son’s dealings publicly. The silence has left a lot of unanswered questions about Hunter Biden’s role at Burisma."

Again, if it was one of the Trump's sons profiting from President Trump's position, the left would be all over it, and criminal prosecutions would be in play.  However, the media is not so bull-doggish about Hunter Biden’s history of profiting from his father’s political connections.

Imagine that.

In the end, I think not only will it be Biden who is in trouble over all of this, not Trump, but that this may lead to more realization of the depth of the corrupt tendrils that the Clintons and Obamas have in the deep state game that has been a part of the Democrat Party for over a century.
