Labor Unions Pay Good Money To Combat Tea Party Movement

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The Tea Party Movement is a large concern for the Democrats, labor unions, and Democrat Party supporters. An organization, backed by a mountain of money from the nation's largest labor unions, has risen out of the sludge to try and stop the Tea Party Movement before it "gains legislative traction."

TheTeaPartyIsOver.org claims that the grass roots Tea Party Movement is nothing more than a fad. But, the organization does not treat the Tea Partiers as a simply fad, coming at them with both barrels blazing.

The anti-Tea Party organization is a network of complex money flows that enable to labor unions to get into the act of trying to stop the groundswell that could end the Democrat Party's power in November, should the Tea Party Movement translate into votes.

The two men who created the Tea Party foe are Democratic Party strategists. They are using their connections in the party to pull soft money contributions from unions, and other well-padded sources, in the hopes of bringing down the Tea Party Movement.

The way the organization is set up, however, is deceptive. While appearing to be a groundswell, grass roots endeavor, the true sources of the funding are hardly independent.

The method of funding, according to Paul Ryan, a legal counsel at the Campaign Legal Center, is ". . . not illegal but it is, I think, dishonest on the part of the organizations. And there's a reason they do it: they know voters don't like outsiders coming in to sway the vote."

Ultimately, the legal set up of the organization will enable taxpayer dollars, sent up as union dues, to be used to help fund a host of Democratic causes and help quash the tea party movement.

Whether on not TheTeaPartyIsOver.org is the start of a larger campaign to target tea party activists is unknown, but considering the involvement of the labor unions, it would not be a surprise if a larger campaign is in the works.
