Obama to Chaplains: You Can't Preach Against Me

by Douglas V. Gibbs

When the birth control mandate from Obamacare hit the news, and the Catholic Church railed against it, I stood with the Catholic Church. I am not Catholic, and my wife and I did use birth control when we felt we needed to. However, like the Catholic Church, I am pro-life, and I am against the morning-after pill. The thing is, this is not about denomination. This is about a federal government that is trying to, in opposition of the First Amendment, prohibit the free exercise of religious belief.

The rising oppression by the president that wishes he was king doesn't stop there.

Now, beginning with the military chaplains, Obama and his cronies are trying to silence any opposition.

The Catholic Church sent out a letter about the church's position on Obama's birth control mandate, and the  Army's Office of the Chief of Chaplains forbid Catholic priests that are chaplains to read the letter. They argue it is because the letter encourages civil disobedience, and could be read as seditious against the Commander-in-Chief.

The Catholic Church has countered by sending another letter to the chaplains instructing them to contact the Military Archdiocesan lawyer in case of interference or any punishment.

The Archdiocese believes that any attempt to keep a chaplain from freely teaching and preaching the Catholic faith, for which you were endorsed, is a violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution. The Church calls this a moral issue, not a political issue.

In the military service members fall under the UCMJ, not the Constitution, and they do not have the same rights of free speech that civilians have. That said, it is not reasonable that the Obama administration should work to silence any clergy, including chaplains, because they dare to disagree with his madness.
