Democrat Calls for Cheney's Execution

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Could you imagine if a republican called for the death of any democrat? It seems not too long ago that Obama, and the liberal democrats, were lecturing "the right" on divisive rhetoric, claiming that a picture of crosshairs on Sarah Palin's site may very well have been a part of what sent a shooter into a rage-filled mindset to put a bullet through Representative Gabby Gifford's head.

When I brought up, after the Giffords incident, the years of hateful rhetoric against George W. Bush alone, that included nooses and and slit throats, the liberal commenters of Political Pistachio chalked it up as being the nonsensical ravings of a few nuts, and the liberal left could not be held responsible for the madness of the handful of unstable individuals.

Since then we have seen example after example of the Left's inability to follow their "we must practice civility" preachings, and Rep. Chuck Kruger (D-Thomaston, Maine), the Democrat chair of the Maine legislature’s Moderate Caucus, is one of the more recent examples. He used his Twitter account to express his view that former Vice President Dick Cheney should be executed.

This is not the first time Kruger has made a statement wishing Cheney's death.

Last year on his Twitter account Kruger tweeted: “Cheney deserves same final end he gave Saddam. Hope there are cell cams.”

In other words, Kruger wants to watch the death of Cheney, too.

This is appalling, but not a surprise.  I remember a while back, can't remember which democrat said it, though, that it is okay when democrats use partisan rhetoric against the republicans because the democrat is telling the truth.

Usually, when the democrats accuse republicans of nasty rhetoric, it isn't. They are just "interpreting" what was said as being offensive. You know, like with Palin's blood libel comment, which not meant in the way the leftists interpreted it. And never mind the fact that democrat representative Cohen out of Tennessee had used the blood libel line (complete with a Nazi reference) before, as well, and that was brushed under the rug.

In the case of Kruger, there is no question that his call for Cheney's death would never be acceptable if the tables were turned, and a republican had said such a thing.

As for Kruger's position on the Moderate Caucus in Maine, I think it is safe to say he is anything but moderate, and he occupies that seat purely for the purpose of political salvation.

Wow, imagine that, a democrat lying about who he is for political reasons.  Being a moderate is fashionable, and may even save a few positions in Washington, but it is hardly what people like Kruger truly portrays.

Thankfully, there is someone who recognizes the danger, and not-so-moderate nature, of Kruger's remarks. Jason Savage, the Executive Director of Maine People Before Politics, said of Kruger's tweet, “In addition to the fact that this dangerous statement violates any standard of decency for a politician representing the people of Maine, it also exposes the false narrative that self-proclaimed moderate politicians are trying to create.”

Kruger later claimed he did not remember posting the Twitter comment about Cheney, “I’m not admitting or denying it. I don’t wish anybody’s death, that’s not really how I feel. I can be snarky, I can be a wise-ass.”

Kruger’s Twitter history has been removed from public view as well.
