Shark Attack off Central California Coast

By Douglas V. Gibbs

A juvenile great white shark bit a surfer, leaving the man with minor injuries, but still able to paddle himself to shore, at Sand Spit beach in the Montana De Oro State Park west of San Luis Obispo.

The surfer was on of several in the water.  Witnesses claim the shark was being between 8 and 10 feet long.

The shark bit the man on his right hip, and he was flown to a local hospital for treatment.

Sings have been posted warning beach-goers of shark activity.
