First of all, don't believe for a minute that DHS is actually planning a genuine illegal alien deportation offensive. They're only pretending to to.....actually, I can't think of any reason why they would want to create the public impression that they're functionally abrogating their own demigod's imperial amnesty decree from thirteen months ago. Boredom, perhaps? Maybe it's "Opposite Day" at the White House in lieu of Christmas? Beats me.
Whatever the reason, it is guaranteedly not serious. Why, you may be asking? Because they're announcing their planned "raids" a month in advance:
The [Commissariat] of Homeland [Ins]ecurity has begun preparing for a series of raids that would target for deportation hundreds of families who have flocked to the United States since the start of last year, according to people familiar with the operation.
The nationwide campaign, to be carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as soon as early January, would be the first large-scale effort to deport families who have fled violence in Central America, those familiar with the plan said. More than 100,000 families with both adults and children have made the journey across the southwest border since last year, though this migration has largely been overshadowed by a related surge of unaccompanied minors.
The ICE operation would target only adults and children who have already been ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge, according to officials familiar with the undertaking....
So it's insignificant as well as unserious. Or, as Mark Krikorian called it, "enforcement theater".
....who spoke on the condition of anonymity because planning is ongoing and the operation has not been given final approval by DHS. [emphasis added]
So even this picayune public relations exercise might not even take place after all.
The adults and children would be detained wherever they can be found and immediately deported. The number targeted is expected to be in the hundreds and possibly greater.
Out of the thirty million illegals squatting in our country. That doesn't even qualify as "token".
It does, however, reflect the crash in deportations under Obama's misrule:
The Obama administration formally disclosed Tuesday that in the 2015 budget year, the U.S. deported the fewest [alien]s since 2006.
The Homeland [Ins]ecurity [Commissariat] oversaw the deportation of about 235,413 people between October 2014 and September 2015. Over the same period, 337,117 people were arrested trying to cross the border illegally.
Rank, grotesque, shameless exaggerations, all.
DHS has previously said the drop in deportations overseen by ICE is largely due to the decline in arrests at the border. Border arrests dropped about 30% from 2014 to 2015. The 2015 border arrests included roughly 79,800 people traveling as families and children traveling alone, mostly from Central America. [emphasis added]
Not because Border Patrol agents have gotten lazy or unmotivated, but because (1) there are far too few of them and (2) they're not being allowed to do what is supposed to be their job - patrolling and enforcing the border. Under these restrictions, the wonder is that there have been any border arrests at all. You could almost call the aforequoted number of border arrests "token".
The WaPo's Greg Sargent may have a reason for the White House's abrupt and completely out of character faux deportation sortie, and as you've probably already deduced, it centers on Hillary Clinton:
In a preview of more to come, a leading immigration advocate, Frank Sharry of America’s Voice, told me that there will be intense pressure on the Democrat presidential candidates — particularly....Hillary Clinton — to denounce the new policy. Sharry pointed out that this could force [Mrs.] Clinton to decide whether to align with immigration [extremis]s and Latinos, as she’s been doing in hopes of winning the Latino vote by a huge margin in the general election, which would mean breaking with the Obama administration and adopting a position that Republicans will attack as weak on immigration enforcement.
“This will be a political nightmare for the Democrats,” Sharry told me. “The specter of raids picking up families and sending them back to violent countries is going to put Hillary Clinton in a difficult position. She’ll have to choose between protecting refugees from Central America, a demand of the Latino community, or standing with the law-and-order position of Obama and Republicans.” [emphasis added]
I'll give you a few minutes to let the hysterical laughter at that last comment subside.
Okay, it might take several hours. I can wait....
.....Alright, are we good now? Excellent. Serious news analysis can't proceed without at least a modicum of composure, you know.
Whether O's make-believe "Deportageddon" is a "political nightmare" for the Empress depends on which phase of the campaign at which you're looking. In the Democrat primaries, it would actually seem to be beneficial to her chances at the Donk nomination, as she would have a foil in her own party off of which to bounce her ham-fisted pandering to La Raza-oids and Reconquistas - "Nominate me and I'll reverse the president's cruel and racist anti-immigrant crackdown!" or something along those lines. To the degree that Democrat voters are some combination of (1) gullible and (2) resigned - a metric at which I'll refrain from speculation, thank you very much - they would presumably eat it right up and snarf it right down. But in the general election, among a general electorate that is still massively opposed to illegal immigration but resigned in despair to being overrun by it, with that issue being one of the hot general campaign topics? Yeah, that could be a major problem for her.
My best guess? The White House believes that Hillary will be the Democrat nominee and is bulldozing her into yet another untenable general election position that The One could overcome with the race card but she won't be able to with her vagina, to say nothing of her abysmal lack of any political skillset.
