If anybody thinks this budget is "dead on arrival," they're attributing way too much importance and significance to the destination as opposed to the sender:
Barack Obama unveiled his last budget on Tuesday, a record $4.1 trillion plan that is dead-on-arrival in Congress but could shape the 2016 White House race.
And, you know, will be imposed by executive decree. Congress is just there to impotently boo and jeer it.
Legislatively, the future looks bleak for Obama's 2017 fiscal plan, which covers spending on everything from cybersecurity to the environment.
Non-binding resolutions of opposition, perhaps. That'll be about it.
It includes big-ticket [spending] in America's creaking infrastructure -- to the tune of $320 billion over the next decade -- and ramps up research into [anti-]energy technologies and cancer....
"The budget that we are releasing today reflects my priorities and the priorities that I believe will help [degrade and destroy] security and prosperity in America for many years to come," he said.
It is chock-full of measures designed to wean the United States off fossil fuels, including a $10-a-barrel levy on crude.
And take us back to the early nineteenth century even without an enemy EMP attack.
You can go down the laundry list at the link if you want. It goes without saying that nothing mentioned outside the (ostensible) military spending items even pretends to be constitutional. When House Speaker Paul Ryan described it as "[not] even a budget so much as it is a [communist] manual for growing the federal government at the expense of hardworking Americans," he was being bending-over-backwardly generous. And, to be fair, I'm sure it is DOA on Capitol Hill.
That doesn't mean it isn't going to be forced on the country by the Obama White House anyway.
Which it will.
Because Barack Obama's pen never runs out of ink.
It's a pity our economy can't say the same thing about dollars.
