Chris Christie, Fat Pariah

by JASmius

They only thing about this that isn't delicious schadenfreude is that it's happening to Trump's stooge rather than Trump himself:

Six New Jersey newspapers issued a joint editorial Tuesday calling on Governor Chris Christie to resign in the wake of his failed presidential campaign and his subsequent endorsement of rival Donald Trump.

The six newspapers including the Asbury Park Press, the Cherry Hill Courier-Post and the Morristown Daily Record — all Gannett-owned papers that are part of the USA Today network — were apparently spurred to editorial outrage by a Monday press conference in which Christie refused to answer questions about anything other than his nomination of a State Supreme Court judge. Asked why, Christie replied, “Because I don’t want to.”

“We’re fed up with Governor Chris Christie’s arrogance,” the papers wrote. “We’re fed up with his opportunism. We’re fed up with his hypocrisy.”

Well, he was being honest and candid.  Isn't that what pretty much everybody wants to see from politicians (of the other party)?  On the other hand, this is a far cry from the "Sit down and shut up!" one-time Tea Party rock star that took the nation by storm six years ago.  And it's not difficult to understand why: He went from those heights to going RINO on a number of issues to shivving Mitt Romney over the latter's allegedly snubbing him on the veep slot on his ticket by trying to put himself over at the '12 GOP convention instead of Mitt to bro-hugging Barack Obama five days before the November election to going even more RINO to win gubernatorial re-election to Bridgegate to running for president and humiliatingly flaming out to becoming Donald Trump's rotund palm-frond-waver.  That is a terminal-velocity plummet from grace to ignominous infamy.  He sold his soul to a "better" who is worse than everybody.  He put all his self-respect in a great big pile and burned it.

Somewhere in the depths of the Big Show's psyche I think he realizes all of this.  And I think "Because I don't want to" is its manifestation.  The Hessian, as it were, has no more aggression.

Oh, he's not going to be recalled - a supremely tall order, that - and I would still categorize it as a surprise if he did resign before the November election.  It is blindingly obvious that Trump bought Christie's endorsement with a promise of something like the attorney-general slot, the plan being to continue being an absentee governor until Trump wins it all and then flip the State he claims to love the double-bird and be off to Trumpington, District of Trump.  And when Trump gets massacred in November instead?  Or somehow wins, but "changes his mind" about that Cabinet billet?  THAT's when Captain Corpulent waddles off into the sunset, I would guess, the tough-talking straight-shooter who whored himself to a fraud and not only didn't get "love," but contracted sixteen different politically-transmitted diseases for his trouble....

....and left himself no place to hide.

I don't know if it can get any worse for this enormously small man.  But I hope it does.
