Guarantee of Rights

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Our natural rights are God-given, therefore no government has the authority to infringe upon them.  No Bill of Rights serves as a guarantee of our rights, for tyranny refuses to be staved off by a the words of a Constitution.  As with our rights, our freedom must be defended and guaranteed not by a government, or a Constitution, but by the people who wrote the Constitution and allowed the existence of the government by their consent.  Therefore, the true guarantee of a people's natural rights lie in their desire to not be complacent or apathetic.  Complacency leads to apathy, and apathy leads to bondage.
