Actor, and star of over a decade of James Bond movies (1973 - 1985), Roger Moore has died at the age of 89.  His family released a statement on the James Bond star's Twitter account.

"With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated."

He died in Switzerland after a short battle with cancer.

Born in London, the British actor made his primary mark in film playing agent 007 from the James Bond series of movies, following after the legendary Sean Connery and one film tucked inside near the end of Connery's reign, "On Her Majesty's Service" with George Lazenby.

Early in his life Roger Moore served in the Royal Army Service Corps as a second lieutenant shortly after the end of World War II.
