Why Newspapers Are Becoming Obsolete

With the advent of the Internet, many have been predicting the demise of the newspaper for a while. All of the major newspapers have web equivalents, and there are many news sources people have come to depend upon that are "Internet only."

In the U.S., shares of major newspaper groups are plummeting. The Washington Post is down 24 percent, and the New York Times is down 26 percent, according to a recent "print" article I read. Both companies, by the way, are investing heavily in the online newspaper business.

There are other economic factors as well that are assaulting the "print" newspaper. They have lost a large portion of their classifieds and advertising to the Internet as well.

But I would like to add another possible factor to the mix, another feasible variable for the public's growing disinterest in the traditional newspaper. Could the newspaper industry be losing readers also because of its relentless push for an agenda not shared by a large segment of its community. For example, when referring to the Los Angeles Times, some surveys have the numbers of readers listed as 40% of L.A. readers are conservative and 20% don’t care. Of the remaining 40%, a large portion of those are independent, or moderates. So the question then arises, how can a newspaper survive trying to reach less than 40% of the people?

I, myself, only purchase the Sunday paper, and that is primarily for the "inserts." I receive most of my news from personal sources, and the Internet - Oh, and a portion from television news channels, but they are, for the most part, about as honest in their reporting as the newspapers.

And more astonishing is that a friend of mine that writes for the local Press Enterprise newspaper in Riverside, California, agrees with me. "Liberal content is definitely a factor in the coming demise of the printed media, or at least in the newspaper end of it," she told me.

And since only a portion of the population is Liberal, and the rest of the potential customers are seeing most reporters, editors, and columnists as being "too liberal," I believe it may not be too far of a stretch to say that the liberalization of the newspaper industry may be one of the major factors, if not the largest factor, for the slow fall of the the industry.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a few websites to visit for today's latest news.

Russia Wages War Against Georgia, Ossetia Province

Yesterday the world received news that Russian tanks and troops had surged into Georgia's breakaway province, South Ossetia, in order to repel a Georgian offensive to reclaim the region. At that point, fighting was said to have left hundreds dead.

Fierce clashes between Russian and Georgian troops erupted in the southern suburbs of South Ossetia's capital Tskhinvali. Georgia was under heavy bombardment from Russian planes.

In short, Russia has started a full-scale military invasion of Georgia.

This invasion is Russia's decision to defend Russians in Tskhinvali, who had come under fire by the Georgian artillery and air assault. This is the worst fighting since the 1992-94 separatist war in the region.

The United States has been in support of Georgia's bid to join NATO, and in this conflict has called for an immediate ceasefire and Russian withdrawal.

In response to many European calls for the "crisis" to be resolved, Georgia's ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Victor Dolidze, told a crisis meeting of the OSCE's permanent council in Vienna, "If this is not war, then I wonder what is."

The UN Security Council has failed to agree to call for an immediate ceasefire.

South Ossetia broke from Georgia in the early 1990s. It has since been a constant source of contention between Georgia and Russia. South Ossetia has long sought unification with North Ossetia, which is inhabited by the same Ossetian ethnic group, but ended up across the border in Russia after the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Today, news agencies are stating that Russia and Georgia may be headed toward a wider war as Russian tanks rumbled farther into the contested province of South Ossetia, and Russian aircraft continued bombing Georgian towns, escalating a conflict that already has left hundreds dead.

Georgia's Foreign Ministry said the country was "in a state of war" and accused Russia of beginning a "massive military aggression." The Georgian parliament approved a state of martial law, mobilizing reservists and ordering government authorities to work round-the-clock.

The risk of the conflict setting off a wider war also increased because Russian-supported separatists in another breakaway region, Abkhazia, have also targeted Georgian troops by launching air and artillery strikes to drive them out.

A Georgian spokesman has stated that, "This is about annihilation of a democracy on their borders. We on our own cannot fight with Russia."

Medvedev's office said that Russia had not received the Georgian cease-fire proposal.

In response to the invasion, Georgia (who is a U.S. ally whose troops have been trained by American soldiers) launched a major offensive overnight.

Russia has laid much of the responsibility for ending the fighting on Washington, which has trained Georgian troops. Washington, in turned, blamed Russia.

Georgia claims it has shot down 10 Russian planes, and they have claimed to have captured two Russian pilots.

This is my hill

By J.J. Jackson

Eventually, if you want to enact positive change you have to fight for that change. If you don’t, you’ll just get more of the same. Right now America is in full retreat, being chased from each hilltop by anti-American forces touting their weapons of class warfare, rights descendant from bureaucrats and mob rule where the minority is not protected.

I firmly believe that one of the problems we have in our society today is that we are compromised by compromise. At some point people began believing that compromise, much like change, is carte blanche good and never to be questioned. Others though seem to believe that compromise should be questioned, but only as a formality to look like they were seriously considering the consequences. But if you keep compromising with people that don’t agree with you on core issues all you are doing is moving towards their position and away from yours.

And if your position is a core belief what happens when you are no longer upholding it because you have compromised to the point where your opposition has basically gotten their way? It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to figure it out.

We see where compromise has gotten us on a variety of issues from abortion, where a child isn’t a child if it is only so many weeks old in the womb but magically becomes a child one nanosecond after that, to the second amendment where it is now only ok to keep certain types of government approved arms despite the clear and unambiguous term “shall not be infringed” staring us in the face. We have been led to a place where arbitrary and capricious standards that make absolutely no sense reign. And it has all been in the name of the vaunted goal of compromise.

America has, over the years been a victim of an extreme leftward lean in our policy. Those that have pioneered this policy have played on the desire of Americans to simply want to get along with everyone. They exploited that desire with perfection.

This became blatantly apparent in the years after FDR’s social programs to the point where today the continually modified and expanded FDR plan for socialism is favored by the majority of Republicans where as in the early twentieth century it was favored by the Democrats. Today, after decades of compromise on the Constitution and with the Republicans as a whole filling the position of the Democrats of old, the Democrats have marched solidly even further to the left.

They then cry out for even more compromise with their new and more intrusive government programs such as Hillary Clinton’s plan for socialized medicine. Every election cycle they propose even grander socialist wealth redistribution policies. And why shouldn’t they? They’ve eventually won nearly every battle they have fought when it comes to such ideas by drawing enough people into compromise for compromise sake and promising them a piece of the pie they offer.

Everything has shifted. Because once our decision was made to compromise on the core principles which founded this great nation we have been in a constant state of retreat from the fight for individual liberty, equality and unalienable rights. Americans are in retreat and those that want to turn America into some form of socialist nanny state with themselves at the controls are on the attack.

As we retreat we keep passing up hills and giving them to the enemy.

The hill named “Right to property”? Gone. Overrun by the forces of FDR charging forward with his plans for confiscating the wealth of one American to pay retirement benefits to other Americans.

The hill named “Right to Privacy” with regards to our personal affects and records? Gone with the invention of the income tax because each and every year you are required to lay your personal records bear for the government to scrutinize.

The hill named “Second Amendment”? The daisies on that hilltop were trampled into the ground long ago with laws that infringed on the rights of the people to freely keep and bear arms.

The hill named “First Amendment”? Blown right past when McCain-Feingold became law.

And we just keep retreating and giving ground like it doesn’t matter. I’ve been yelling for years but the generals leading this charge backwards have ignored me. But now my legs are getting tired. In my arms there is a loaded rifle that has been rarely fired under official orders. Although I have fired it many times on my own and with other Americans also fed up with the situations that arise much to the chagrin of those who claim to be our “leaders” of course. And all about me I am watching my fellow Americans retreat as the orders are given time and again.

We are told to rally around our anointed leader, whoever it may be, come election time. We have the specter of a Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama presidency thrown in our faces to scare us into voting against them and not for something. We are told not to question. We are told to sit down and shut up. We are told, as conservatives, to vote for whomever the GOP nominee is, even if it is someone like John McCain who is basically using the John Kerry strategy of running on the fact that he served in Vietnam and how dare you question him. Don’t you know he is a war hero?

If you point out that he has a penchant for violating the Constitution and joining arm in arm with some of the most liberal members of Congress you are branded a troublemaker, a racist or whatever nonsensical term he and those that support him think they can get away with.

But there is one problem. The problem is that I am not actually enlisted in this army and I don’t really mind being labeled a troublemaker. I have sworn no deep allegiance to the Republican Party aside from simply registering with the party so that I can vote in their primaries and have a say in who their nominee is. But I am not a good little soldier and I do not recognize their authority to order me to vote for their candidate if I disagree with the ultimate choice. I’ve merely been here as someone that has sought to lend my rifle to defeating bigger foes of America.

But now I am not certain that the Republican Party is my kindred spirit in the quest for restoring this Republic. So I’m stopping; right here. No more running. This hill on which I now come to rest will be my hill. This is where I will make my stand.

And I know we as Americans can do it. We can make this stand. Remember when we were told to accept comprehensive immigration reform and amnesty for illegals? Remember how we were told that stopping that atrocious piece of legislation was impossible? That it was a done deal? Remember what happened when the foot soldiers revolted against McCain and others who did not have America’s best interests in mind?

That’s my point.

I was there for that battle. I fought on the front lines. And I saw what happens first hand when Americans rally even as their leaders cower and retreat. Mere foot soldiers rose to the status of general through battlefield promotions and led the counter attack. So my legs will not run another mile. They don’t have another mile left in them to run.

I will not be blown off this hill. I’m setting myself here, preparing my powder and cleaning my rifle. I am confident in my shot. And make no mistake, I will fire every last bullet at those that are about to come over the rise and try to take this hill from me.

This is my hill; one of the last vestiges of our once great country slowly being ripped from us. And I know that there are many who will stand firm if only they see others willing to stand their ground and know they are not alone.

Sure, others will blindly follow the calls for retreat. I will not.

I am tired of being told to suck it up and grow up and accept the compromise placed before me by those that are worried they will lose if I do not follow. Yet at the same time they are unwilling to compromise with me and my fellow Americans and reveal their own hypocrisy. They don’t want compromise. They don’t want what is best for this country. They want their power. And I will not be party to that folly.

It will not be easy. There will be suffering. There will be pain. There will be blood spilled this day and probably for many days, months and years to come. We may even enter into terrible darkness and the deepest of winters and fear that all is lost. But to make things better I am willing to suffer. If I am not, then the enemy has already won and defeated me.

This is my hill and I claim it for Lady Liberty. This is where I make my stand for what is right. And John McCain? He will never have my vote. Promises today and deathbed conversions cannot undo the history he has.

To Hell with worrying if anyone else has the courage to stand by my side and fight. The only way you are taking this hill is over my dead body. Today is a good day to die, but since I don’t plan on dying on this hill, that means there is only one question to ask of those about to charge over this hill and try to take it. Are you willing to die on this hill trying to take it from not just me but all the other Americans you are about to come face to face with?

Well? Are you?

"The Case Against Barack Obama" book by David Freddoso

The record of Barack Obama, throughout his political career, demonstrates conclusively that Obama is hardly a reformer. His image of "Hope and Change" is actually a huge lie. There is not a single instant in Obama's political career where he did something for the sake of reforms and change.

Obama also has a shady history. The skeletons in his closet are of far-left positions, and political corruption. His campaign, like those of most left-wing Democrats, is about using the taxpayer's money to stay in power, and benefit his political cronies.

The Barack Obama Campaign is very much about the old politics, not some new swing of hope and change. He is the epitomy of the corrupt politician, and he is surrounded by the corrupt as well.

David Freddoso is a reporter that was watching his fellow columnists and journalists fawn over Barack Obama, and it seemed a little overboard to him. So he began to investigate Obama, looking closely at Barack's record. The resulting conclusion, and many detailed revelations about Barack Obama, has been put into the book, "The Case Against Barack Obama." David is my guest tonight on Political Pistachio Radio to discuss the book, and Barack Obama.

Join us live at 10:00 pm Eastern Time for the interview, or you can check out the archive later. Go HERE for the program.

Obama Campaign Feeling A Little Angst

For a few weeks now Mr. Messiah, Barack Obama, has been fumbling around with the bleak realization that it may be possible that everyone in this country has not fallen for his lies and rhetoric. Perhaps the public has paid attention each time he has changed his position. Perhaps people do not think he is a great orator after all, ever since they began to notice his inability to speak coherently without a teleprompter, and his strong affection for the filler word: "Uh." It might be possible, Obama's Entourage is beginning to realize, that there is a large amount of people out there willing to vote for McCain. And maybe, just maybe, the Hillary Clinton Camp has not completely given up just yet.

Worst of all, for the Obama campaign, it is quickly becoming apparent that the Democrats are realizing that placing their eggs in the basket of an inexperienced rookie with a far left agenda, and a candidate with ultra-leftist and corruption skeletons in the closet, could be the wrong way to go for the party in 2008.

The Barack Obama drive for the White House is running neck and neck with the McCain Campaign in all of the polls, and in some cases, he is running behind his GOP opposition. At this point in the race, Democrats were sincerely hoping Obama would have a clear lead. Unfortunately for the Democrats, his little trip to his global constituents (or at least Obama seems to think they are his constituents, considering the way he was speaking to them on his Fabulous "Chosen One" World Tour) did more damage than good to his campaign, and people are beginning to wonder if Obama wants to be president of the United States, or president of the world.

Americans may be recognizing an elitist streak of arrogance in Obama that has turned them off of so many candidates in the past. And in his inexperience, Obama is now trying to defend against every little thing said about him, rather than finding a position on the issues and hammering his unchanging positions in his speeches.

Not to worry. The mainstream press will iron things out, and remind everyone that Barack Obama is exceptional, a candidate of the people, not some elitist politician that really doesn't give a care about the average American. He can relate to the average American. He is the candidate that is different. Just an average Joe like the rest of us. And while the press works on convincing the public that Obama is not the typical, elitist politician, Barack Obama shall enjoy a much needed vacation in Hawaii, at a private beach house, surrounded by the secret service and campaign officials that are worried about his exposure to the paparazzi.

Of course, the bulk of the work does not rest in the hands of the Obama-adoring press. Obama has some work to do himself. If his chances to win the presidency are to remain within the realm of possibility, he must put on a good event to announce the selection of his running mate, and his speech at the party convention in Denver must be exceptional.

The Obama Campaign is confident he will be able to pull off both. In fact, they have been confident during this entire campaign, despite the anger of the Hillary supporters, and his dwindling lead in the polls. It shouldn't be too hard for the great messiah to bring it all together, right?

Barack Obama just needs to ignore the fact that Senator Hillary Clinton told a gathering of supporters last week that she’s looking for a “strategy” for her delegates to have their voices heard and “respected” at the Democratic National Convention. He just needs to not pay attention to how his campaign is weakening by the day against McCain, and how the House Democrats are starting to implode. Hey, no problem. He needs not to worry that what was once a sure-thing now looks, at best, like a dicey proposition. The Great One just needs to look straight ahead, even though doing so may result in him viewing McCain's backside as the Republican Candidate takes over the lead. Who cares? Obama's "The One," and everyone will vote for him in the end, right? Because people want change and hope and hope and change and hope for change as everything changing because of hope, and they love Obama for that, despite the fact that Obama flips and flops more than a piece of bait lying on the deck gasping for air, trying to flip-flop its way back into the cool water he is so accustomed to being in.

In back-room meetings Pelosi tells "at-risk" democrats to back drilling to get elected

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refused to bring the "drilling for domestic oil" issue to a vote, and took vacation and went on her book tour instead. Many of the Republicans protested this, believing the country is more important than the vacation, and that unfinished business needs to be completed.

Besides, Pelosi doesn't want to bring it to a vote. She is not even interested in working on bringing down prices, or do anything to bring relief to Americans. Why should she? She is confident that Democrats will own Washington in November and come the first of the year all of her warped policies will be enacted. She would rather "save the planet" from mythical ailments, than address the fact of rising oil prices, and the need to drill domestically.

But, since power for the party is her number one prerogative, she has decided to encourage some Democrats up for election to back domestic drilling if that is what it'll take to get them elected. After all, it's not like we'll really have to drill - she'll make sure we don't.

Why? Well, gosh, because of that horrible man-made global warming!!!!

You know, Gore's mythical idiocy?

Barack Obama's Illegal Campaign Contributions

It is illegal for any U.S. candidate for federal office (and most state and local offices) to accept campaign contributions from foreign nationals. It is also illegal for any U.S. candidate for President to accept more than $2,300 per election cycle.
So, why has Barack Hussein Obama accepted over $24,000 from Monir and Hosam Edwan in Rafah, Gaza? And why is he lying about it by noting on his official filings with the Federal Election Commission that Rafah is in Georgia? Rafah is the HAMAS-controlled city on the border of Egypt and is the site of the Rafah gate.

Time for a Federal Election Commission complaint to be filed.

Obama--the candidate of HAMAS . . . literally AND monetarily.

The American Lula

Olavo de Carvalho
Jornal do Brasil, July 24, 2008

Besides listening to the national anthem with his hands over his genitals instead of over his heart, Barack Hussein Obama has adulterated the presidential seal so as to make it into one of his campaign logos, declared that the American flag is “a symbol of oppression,” and, as a finishing stroke, removed the stars and stripes from the tail of his campaign jet, replacing them with the “O” that stands for. . . himself.

More than plain and simple contempt, this attitude denotes a conscious effort at destroying the national symbols. This effort, in its turn, does not require symbolic interpretation: its meaning is self-evident. It gives electoral expression to the cultural war that has been waged against the United States, from within and from abroad, ever since the sixties: the point is to erect, upon the rubble of patriotism and sovereignty, a new system of loyalties, based on the alliance between every anti-American, anti-Western, and anti-Christian hatred and the billionaire interests engrossed in the implementation of the world government. The clearest token of this alliance are the candidate’s sources of funding: radical and pro-terrorist groups, on the one side, and the globalist megafortunes plus the mainstream media in full, on the other. Hence the vigor of his campaign, which has four times as much money as his opponent’s and—without any exaggeration—gets twenty or thirty times as much media coverage.

With this backup, he presumes not only to defy every convention but also to trample on the most elementary legal requirements: after withholding for months his birth certificate, he at last produced a manifestly spurious one (see http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Politics/12993.htm). The original document, which is still missing, is necessary to clear up an essential question: Is Obama an American citizen, or is he an alien and therefore ineligible? The concealment and the subsequent fraud speak in favor of the latter hypothesis, but the steadfast enthusiasm of Obamaniacs, contrasting with their absolute lack of interest in clarifying this question, shows that they would rather demolish the American electoral system at one blow than allow Republicans to stay in power: the new system of loyalties is already in force, placing over national integrity the partisan ambitions of the Left.

With the same self-confident insolence, Obama’s government plans run flagrantly counter to the will of the majority, without the candidate having to fear the loss of even a single vote. The nation wants gas prices down; Obama promises to send them up, by maintaining the ban on new oil drilling. America wants to see illegal immigrants depart; Obama promises not only to grant them amnesty but also to give them taxpayer-funded health care. The nation wants fewer taxes; Obama promises to create a few more. If millions of American citizens who think and want the opposite of what Obama does have sworn to vote for Obama for president, it is not on account of what he promises, but in spite of his promising them even hell itself. The attraction of the hypnotic image is stronger than the cost-benefit analysis.

Obama’s campaign is a work of precision psychological engineering, planned not to win over voters through rational persuasion, but to weaken, shock, and stupefy them to the point of making them accept every loss, every humiliation, every defeat, just in order not to contradict the assumed moral obligation to elect him, it being of little importance whether he actually is an enemy in disguise. Here is what Obama is demanding—and obtaining—from voters: that they sacrifice everything to a fetish, that they do so to some extent consciously, sharing therefore the blame for the operation and becoming in advance unable to fight against it once it has been accomplished.

We have already seen this operation be carried out in Brazil, on the basis of the stereotypical image of the “worker president,” against whose crimes and perfidies no one can raise an audible voice anymore, for everyone, dragged by the psychological blackmail, became an accomplice somehow in the rite of sacrifice before the altar of the idol.

Iran President Ahmadinejad Refuses To Give Up Nuclear Weapons Capabilities

On July 23, 2008 I wrote on American Pundit about the United States, United Kingdom, and France launching a sea exercise in the Atlantic in preparation for a naval blockade on Iran should Ahmadinejad ignore the ultimatum to suspend uranium enrichment.

As expected, Iran has not only ignored the ultimatum, but has boldly proclaimed that the country will not give up "a single iota of its nuclear rights."

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's remarks regarding this came during discussions with Syrian President Bashar Assad who is in Tehran for a two-day visit.

Assad, hoping to establish for Syria a more prominent Mideast role, promised Sarkozy during a visit to France in July that he would visit with Ahmadinjad and try to persuade Iran to prove it isn't developing nuclear weapons. Ahmadinejad's claims that he only desires nuclear technology for the production of energy has hardly been believed by the West, and the United States and her allies suspect that Iran is seeking a pathway to an atomic bomb.

The United Nations Security Council has imposed three sets of sanctions on Iran over its enrichment and reprocessing of uranium.

It is no surprise to me that Iran has no intention of abiding by any demands placed upon them by the West. Ahmadinejad's defiance in this matter is yet another piece of proof that diplomacy will not only fail with this dictator, but that any talks with Iran will only result in Ahmadinejad's further demands for concessions. Iran's president brings nothing to the table except his own demands. Trusting this murderous dictator is foolish, and dangerous.

Islamization of America: Shelbyville, TN - Tyson Drops Labor Day for Muslim Holiday

America is a nation of hard working people that have used their labors to make this country the promised land for many. Untold thousands of American workers have sweated and toiled through injury and grit to make this nation the greatest nation on the face of this earth. Labor Day was created to recognize that toil. Labor Day was created to show appreciation to the American worker.

The Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee has decided to eliminate Labor Day as a holiday. Workers at that plant will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan, in the fall. The reason stated for this decision to eliminate Labor Day for the Muslim holiday was to accommodate the Muslim workers at the plant.

The company is focusing on the fact that the number of holidays still numbers at eight, meaning the change will not affect production, hardly considering the fact that they've eliminated an American holiday for a concession to an ideology that has declared war on The West. Rather than assimilate into the American Culture, the Muslims are expecting to be a culture apart from ours.

The Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr, specifically means "Festival of the Breaking of the Fast" in Arabic, and marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.

Eid al-Fitr is now one of eight paid holidays for all Team Members at Tyson, while Labor Day is now no longer a paid holiday. The negotiating committee claims they felt they should do this because the holiday is as important to Muslims as Christmas is to Christians (forgetting the fact that Christmas also is celebrated by non-Christians too - though more as a holiday of giving, rather than the celebration of Jesus Christ's birth). Two prayer rooms have been created to allow Muslim workers to pray twice a day and return to work without leaving the plant. Also, in addition to regular, non-paid breaks, all Tyson employees are allotted a seven-minute paid break so that they may go to these prayer rooms and pray during the allotted additional break. Could you imagine if the Christians requested a prayer room for their own use, or wanted an additional break for Bible Study? What would have happened in that case? They would have been laughed right out of the offices of the plant for such a request. Of course, the argument here is that the extra break can be used by any employee - but the intention behind it is a concession to Islam.

When you break it down, the Muslims, fueled by the hate of Islamic teachings, want to destroy the American way of life, and we are bending over backwards to let them!

GOP Uprising - House Republicans Grow A Pair (but will they follow through?)

A five week August recess is upon the United States Congress. House speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Democrats turned out the lights and killed the microphones, adjourning while Republicans were still on the floor talking about gas prices, and how to bring those prices down.

Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and his fellow GOP leaders opposed the motion to adjourn the House of Representatives, claiming that voting on allowing off-shore oil drilling is more important than a vacation, and is hurting the American economy by being left unsettled. The Republicans called their actions the new Boston Tea Party, and refused to leave the floor after the adjournment motion at 11:23 AM, and remained until right at the stroke of 5:00 PM, when Georgia Representative Tom Price announced that House Republicans were stopping their impromptu protest on the floor of the chamber. They ended the five-plus-hour uprising with a singing of "God Bless America."

During the five hour GOP Uprising, the Republicans continued their argument that Congress needs to take up new energy legislation.

The protesting conservatives gave impromptu speeches, and nearly filled the seats of the chamber with staffers, Boy Scouts and tourists in an attempt to pressure Democrats to hold a vote on offshore oil drilling and other GOP energy ideas.

Republicans are now saying that in the end about 45 congressmen took part.

When Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats departed they made sure that all sound systems had been turned off, but it is being reported that the noise was easy to hear from outside the chamber.

The crowd on the floor chanted, "Vote! Vote! Vote!" after Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), called for more action on energy and urged each person to tell 10 others to join the cause.

Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX) said he was on a plane ready to take off for Texas when he heard his GOP colleagues were still on the floor. He immediately headed back to the Capitol to participate in this historic event.

On the floor Representative Thaddeus McCotter proclaimed, "This is the people's House, this is not Pelosi’s politiburo."

The assembled tourists, aides and members in the chamber gave the GOP a standing ovation, shouting "USA! USA! USA!" as they departed when it ended.

Democratic aides were furious at the GOP stunt, kicking reporters out of the Speaker's Lobby, the space next to the House floor where they normally interview lawmakers.

"You're not covering this, are you?" complained one senior Democratic aide. Another called the Republicans "morons" for staying on the floor.

At 11:00 PM here in California while surfing all of the news networks and broadcast networks, the only ones talking about this event at all was Fox News.

One of the tourists that attended, a self-described Republican that supported the effort, said, "The fact that Democrats left before getting their work done is highly disappointing."

Republicans have been demanding a vote on this issue of drilling domestically for a few days now, and the Democrats have avoided it all the way up to adjourning and running off on vacation.

Will the Republicans carry this into Monday? I suggest that we demand that it does! After all, they are there to serve the public. The U.S. Constitution begins "We The People," and I suggest we remind our Congress exactly what that means. Contact your Congressional Representatives and demand that they depart from their home in their respective districts and return to Washington D.C. to complete their duties! They have dropped the ball, so we cannot drop the ball on this too. This is too important. The GOP has put the Democrats on notice, and the American people need to make sure we demand that all of them (including the Dems) return to the House and vote on the issues regarding energy. Watching as this story has developed, it has become obvious to me which party cares and gives a care about the American people, and it is certainly not the Democrats.

These Republicans that have staged this modern day Boston Tea Party, however, must follow through. They must finish what they started. I expect to see them still in Washington on Monday - otherwise, it will be painfully obvious that they have not "grown a pair" after all.

Obama Shifts His Position on an Issue Again! This Time Regarding Off-Shore Oil Drilling

Barack Obama's shifts in his positions on issues are becoming the stuff of legend. Many opponents of Barack Obama call him the ultimate flip-flopper. The Obama-churian candidate is never called on his flip-flops, however, because he is one that wears a teflon shield powered by the mainstream media's love affair with him.

The Democrat's Presidential Nominee's flip-flopping is so bad, that BothWaysBarack.com says that Obama actually is not a flip-flop candidate - he's much worse! According to the site, Obama is not a flip-flopper at all because flip-floppers only hold one position at a time. Senator Obama is different, according to their TV ad - Obama holds two positions at the same time! In the ad they go through some of Obama's more legendary "changes of position," beginning with the ban on handguns, where he is on record for being both for, and against, banning handguns; then both ways on public financing; both ways on withdrawing from Iraq (pull out now? Or in 16 months after January 2009?). This, the ad claims, is worse than being a flip-flopper.

Obama's changes in position are nothing new, however. Last February the Washington Post did an article on the "Top Obama Flip-Flops," detailing five of Barack's changes in position up to that point. In the article, they specifically zeroed in on his changing positions on Special interests, public financing, the Cuba embargo, Illegal immigration, and the decriminalization of marijuana.

Now, as the annointed one realizes that his position may not be very popular on yet another issue, Obama has changed his position again! This time, his change of position on an issue is in regards to off-shore oil drilling. Obama said today that he would be willing to support limited additional offshore oil drilling if that's what it takes to enact a comprehensive policy to foster fuel-efficient autos and develop alternate energy sources.

When McCain dropped his opposition to off-shore oil drilling the Democrats and the media jumped all over it, accusing McCain of being a flip-flopper (though his changes are rare and far between). In fact, the Democrats "Ripped McCain" for his oil drilling "flip-flop."

Will they do the same for Obama? Will they rip into Obama for his change of position on this issue? Of course not. He is a habitual flip-flopper (or both-ways politician), and they have yet to call him on any of them!

Goes back to that teflon shielding.

What is even more fascinating, by the way, is that this change in position happened in the same day as him voicing an opposing view. Earlier in the day, Obama pushed for a windfall profits tax to fund $1,000 emergency rebate checks for consumers besieged by high energy costs, a counter to McCain's call for more offshore drilling.

And as an added note, how stupid is the idea of a windfall profit tax? Is there a limit to the profit a company is allowed to make in a "free" market economy? History shows that such taxes don't bring in the revenue expected, such taxes reduce domestic production (making the U.S. even more reliant upon foreign oil - which means what the Democrats want to do actually yields the opposite results of what they claim they desire), and places more stress on the job market and our economy because:

Our free-market economy is built on profit. Higher profits mean more jobs, higher incomes, more investment in equipment and people, higher standards of living. Yes, profits are the engine for all of this — and that includes the profits of "Big Oil."

What this means is that the Democratically controlled Congress (you know, the one with a 9% approval rating) is really the obstacle standing in the way of lowering fuel prices. At least 20 billion barrels of oil sits under Alaska, and another 30 billion barrels lie offshore. The Democrats in Congress are demanding that these sources remain untapped - because they are placing limited effects on the environment, and an unproven and false theory of man-made global warming, over the "fact" of our energy crisis and its affect on our economy. Besides, the Democrats are thrilled that gas prices are high - because it is their goal to force Americans into using less efficient means of energy like wind and solar power before technology has figured out a way to make such means of energy as efficient as oil, coal, and nuclear power - and they feel if it become too expensive for you to drive your car, you will be begging for alternative sources of fuel.

Of course, this is not to say I am against alternative sources - but let's be smart about it. Let's continue to use oil, of which we have plenty of right here in the good ol' U.S.A., and allow private organizations to develop methods of providing energy we need, rather than government mandates for it, and government taxation as a punishment for success, and regulations so steep that smaller companies find it not profitable to pursue new sources of fuel and energy.

Partial Birth Ban Being Re-examined in Virginia

The ban in Virginia on partial-birth abortion has been challenged and that challenge is now being heard before the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Twice before the Fourth Circuit has struck down Virginia's ban on partial-birth abortion. In 2005, and again in May of 2008, Judges M. Blane Michael and Diana Gribbon Motz ruled that Virginia's 2003 law banning partial-birth abortion is unconstitutional. Each time Judge Paul V. Niemeyer dissented.

Each of those times it was a three judge panel that heard the case, but this time Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell has asked that the full court hear the case -- and this week they agreed. Chris Freund, a pro-family activist with the Family Foundation of Virginia says the ban is too important to be tossed out by merely two judges because they do not happen to agree with it.

"Opponents to the ban are using the same arguments they've used for any legislation that attempts to limit abortion," says Freund. "[They argue] that it denies access to abortion for women, that the procedure actually never takes place, that this is an attempt at opening a small door into eventually banning all abortions."

Though partial-birth abortions in the minority, my God, I cannot believe that banning such a heinous procedure is such a problem to anyone. A partial birth abortion is normally performed upon a child that can survive outside the womb. The baby is turned around and birthed feet first, except for the head. While the head remains in the mother a pair of scissors are inserted into the neck, and then a tube is used to suck out the baby's brains.

How can any mother allow that to be done? This isn't about a woman's right. This is a procedure that is vile and murderous. As a pro-lifer I have a problem with abortion in general, but it surprises me that even pro-abortion folks don't have a problem with this wicked method of killing the unborn. And if it is never done, as many pro-abortionists proclaim, then what's the big deal about banning it so that it won't be done?

As a final note, the Virginia law is similar in large part to the federal ban that has already been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The pictures above are of my grandson, Ezekiel, who is nearly nine months old, and is a miracle - - - Looking at him, this beautiful baby, this miracle of life, I ask: How can any woman kill her own child? It seems so unnatural to me. What has happened to the motherly instinct of the women in today's society?

The Surprising Truth Behind the Myths About Conservatives

You know how it is. As Conservatives we are labeled every which way, and then some. We are, in the words and minds of the far-left, a conservative hodge-podge of Racists, Warmongers, Religious Extremists, and a group of stupid-intolerant-mean-selfish-greedy-extreme-out of touch jerks. If you are pro-life, then you must be a clinic bomber. If you don't support the myth of Man-made Global Warming, then you don't care about the planet and only recycle because it is either A: The Law, or B: Due to greed you recycle to get back your already paid redemption value. I have been called a homophobe, bigot, Islamophobe, extremist, and religious zealot. Fact is, the Left loves to target us with labels out of one side of their mouth, as they proclaim that labels are a bad thing out of the other side. I actually have a liberal commenter that specifically says that he refuses to use labels, but then constantly comments about me, and refers to anybody that agrees with me as "Your Side."

S.E. Cupp and Brett Joshpe are a couple young professionals living in Manhattan, and like other Rightwing Nutjobs (to use the Liberal Vernacular) have noticed the eruption of these common and offensive myths about conservatives. In their book, "Why You're Wrong About The Right," they tackle twenty of the most common and offensive myths about the Right. They interviewed dozens of experts and celebrities, drawing on their collective experiences to present a fresh view of the Right. The book's intention is to surprise, humor and educate - and it accomplishes all three.

Tonight, these two young Conservatives are my guests on Political Pistachio Radio. They will discuss their book, and discuss some of the stereotypes of the Right that have risen through pop-culture. Do Conservatives truly fit these mythical stereotypes? Or is the Left just jumping to conclusions?

Find out tonight on Political Pistachio Radio!

Early Warning Station on Lebanese Peak Places Syria and Iran in a Position to Launch an Attack Against Israel

Hezbollah, under the direction of Syria and Iran, has commandeered Mount Sannine and established an early warning station capable of monitoring U.S. Sixth Fleet movements and Israeli Air Force flights.

Israel is keeping a close eye on this, as the ties deepen between Hezbollah and Syria.

Mount Sannine is considered a strategic location, and its takeover on the behalf of Iran places Israeli security at a significant disadvantage. Recent movements of the Hezbollah military in conjunction with Syria and Iran is being interpreted as preparations for war, and it seems that these forces are in position for a new Middle East confrontation.

If the current military units remain in place, in such a war, it places Israel at a grave strategic disadvantage.

California Earthquake - More Than 90 Aftershocks

After Tuesday's 5.4 Earthquake there have been over 90 aftershocks. Some experts are indicating that there is a 1 in 20 chance of a major quake in the region following Tuesday's Earthquake (7.1 magnitude or greater).

Is Southern California prepared for a quake of that magnitude?

Liberal Left Tactics in regards to Proposition 8, California Marriage Protection Amendment

The Democratic National Committee, true to form, is working to foil the campaign to protect marriage in California. After contributing $25,000 to "Equality for All" for the primary purpose of opposing the proposed California marriage protection amendment, the Secretary of State's office in Sacramento (headed by staunch Democrat Debra Bowen) has decided to change the description of Proposition 8 in the ballot pamphlets.

The proposed change in the wording is supposed to reflect the May 15 California Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay marriage in California (even though the Courts are not supposed to be legislating from the bench). The old wording said that the initiative is designed to limit marriage to be between a man and a woman. The new wording says that the proposed constitutional change will "eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry," and adds, "California could lose several tens of millions of dollars in sales tax if same-sex marriage were banned."

Not only is it no surprise that the Democrats would use such low tactics, but it is further proof that the Democrats are slipping further outside mainstream America. By advocating legalizing gay marriage they are going against the majority of Americans, who support a traditional historic definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Further more, by donating $25,000 to a radical pro-gay organization, they are actually promoting homosexual marriage, and are alienating a group of people that they are trying to court now as voters, specifically "values voters" and Evangelicals.

Despite all of their attempts to stop it, however, the proposition has remained on the ballot. If it passes in November, the May 15 California Supreme Court ruling will be null and void, and marriage will be defined in California as being between one man and one woman.

Earthquake Hits Southern California

At 11:42 AM Pacific Time a strong earthquake struck Southern California. The earthquake was felt all over the region.

Originally thought to be a 5.6, then upgraded to a 5.8 magnitude centered in Chino Hills. It has now been downgraded to a 5.4 magnitude. So far there have been three 3.8 after-shocks centered in the Diamond Bar area, and an overall count of 27 aftershocks. Aftershocks can last for days, though most of them will not be felt.

Preliminary reports show little damage or no damage.

Earthquake was felt as far away as San Diego and Las Vegas.

My parents live a couple miles from the epicenter. News reports have indicated that most of the telephone service in the Inland Empire has been knocked out. I live 30 miles to the south of the epicenter, and still have phone service.

The quake was felt here in the Temecula-Murrieta area as a very strong episode, but not enough to knock anything off of the shelves.

Suicide Bombings in Baghdad and Kirkuk, Iraq

At least 28 people have been killed, and 92 wounded, when three female suicide bombers competed their mission of terror in Baghdad. In Kirkuk a suicide bomber killed at least 16 people, and wounded 112 others.

The attacks come despite the security gains in Iraq that are largely due to the American military surge. Though some contend that the gains in Iraq are at a fragile stage, it is important to note that violence in Iraq has fallen to four-year lows.

Shooting In Knoxville Tennessee Church - Seven Hospitalized

A shooting in a Church during Sunday Services occurred this morning.

None of the church-goers were killed, but seven people were sent to the hospital after an armed attacker opened fire during a church service.

The church was the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. The weapon was a shotgun. Several of the injuries were head wounds, but the status of the injured has not been released at this point.

The gunman was tackled before he could get off any more shots, but had more ammunition on him should he have the opportunity to re-load.

There were about 200 people in the church at the time of the shooting watching a youth performance being put on by 25 children.

UPDATE: Two Dead, Killer faces murder charges.

Opportunities, But America Did Nothing. . .

Thanks, George - - -

''You had these opportunities, America. You didn't do anything,'' FBI agent George Crouch Jr. testified Friday at Salim Hamdan's war crimes trial.

The United States could have killed bin Laden in Khartoum, Sudan, before he moved to Afghanistan in 1996, Hamdan told his interrogators. They could have killed him after al Qaida's 1998 twin bombings at the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. Or after the October 2000 suicide bombing of the USS Cole, at the port of Aden in Yemen, which left 17 U.S. sailors dead.

Instead, ''Bin Laden was emboldened.'' So he struck with the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, leaving nearly 3,000 dead.

It is bitter irony that lawyers are conveying such through a trial. Remote controlled Tomahawks, the illusion of safety beyond the sanctuary of oceans, and the hot pursuit via attorneys and law both remote and unrecognized by murderous men who seek our death. This was how we convinced ourselves of our certain and active defense.

We were offered bin Laden in transit from Sudan to Afghanistan. But we did not want him. Our lawyers had no battle, our leaders no mettle.

Most of us, though not all, have learned nothing. After thousands smote and seven years of war, we are back to our superior ways, demanding Habeas Corpus and noting in the very first trial that bin Laden's deputy was read no Miranda rights upon his capture - or was it arrest?

They say History repeats itself. Never before has it applied so swiftly, within the same generation and within the same conflict.

A selfish society incapable of sacrifice is equally incapable of self-defense. Our greatest concern is not the pursuit of madmen or the states which feed them. It is not even the cost of oil and its affect on our economy and future. It is the cost of the gasoline that cycles through our tanks and its affect on our personal checking account balances.

Cowardice, cloaked in arrogance and concealed behind self-assured brilliance, charts a troubled path; one which appears circular, where constant motion deceptively passes for progress. Progress towards what, we disagree, though our enemies do not, as they laugh.

Many say it will take another catastrophic attack to bring us to our collective senses. But it will likely not come. For, if al-Qaeda (et al) is smart - and they are - they will leave us alone on our own soil while we rip ourselves apart. No explosives, no bombs, no weapons of war required. We are, after all, suddenly and finally waging their centuries-long war upon ourselves.

Brilliantly.

We allow ourselves to be told that we are what is wrong with the world; torturous, greedy, destructive, with disregard for the poorest and bitter intolerance for anyone not like us. We Balkanize our society and point fingers at each other, laying these same charges against one domestic group or another with the venom and aggression once reserved for distant, oppressive enemies.

Can we awaken from our own self-destructive slumber? The decisive war is not in Iraq, nor Afghanistan, nor Pakistan or any other distant place where we perceive our enemies to be. The decisive battle is right here, from Maine to San Diego, from St. Louis to Atlanta.

If we are incapable of rediscovering that which Constitutes us and what distinguishes America from every other nation on this planet, and acknowledging that America, her people, our liberty and our unequaled charity are indeed good and our values just, then what does Iraq or Afghanistan matter? Can we truly identify that which we are defending? For if we cannot, we are not. We are simply preserving soil and borders, protecting cities and people - that which can be found anywhere else on this planet.

What will America be, what will she look like when our children are thrust at the helm? Will they write that we defended her, or will they write that we devoured and discarded her? This, not al-Qaeda or the War on Terror, keeps me up at night.

For we can defeat al-Qaeda and yet have defended nothing at all in the long, painful process.

And our children will be compelled to write of us, ''You had these opportunities, America. You didn't do anything."

Philadelphia 11 Win, Court declares hate crimes laws used to jail Christians preaching sin of homosexuality are wrong

In 2004 the Philadelphia 11 decided to be heard at a Gay Rights Rally. They carried signs conveying God's Love, and preached to the homosexuals at the rally about the sin of the gay lifestyle. The group of Christians, for their actions, were arrested, jailed, charged with a "hate crime" for preaching the Gospel, and threatened with up to fifty years in jail for their thought crimes.

The law being used against them is HB 1493, and it states:

A PERSON COMMITS THE OFFENSE OF ETHNIC
INTIMIDATION IF, WITH MALICIOUS INTENTION TOWARD THE ACTUAL OR
PERCEIVED RACE, COLOR, RELIGION [OR], NATIONAL ORIGIN, ANCESTRY,
MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DISABILITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER OR
GENDER IDENTITY OF ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS,
HE COMMITS AN OFFENSE UNDER ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS ARTICLE. . .

So the original decision against the Christians were that by stating Homosexuality is a sin, they were being "malicious" and were committing a hate crime. Since when is God's Love, and His laws malicious intimidation?

The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania also disagrees that preaching the Gospel is somehow malicious intimidation. The court declared that the "hate crimes" laws used to jail the Philadelphia 11 in 2004 violated the state constitution, and "Preaching to homosexuals about the sin of sodomy should not be made a 'thought crime' in Pennsylvania or any other state."

This is a small victory in a culture where politicians and the far left socialists are becoming increasingly hostile toward Christians.

I am still bothered, however, that the vote was 4-1. . . yes, there is actually one judge on that bench that believes being a Christian and proclaiming one's faith should be made illegal.
