The Photo-Op President

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The video at the bottom of this article shows us that President Obama is the Photo-Op President. He is not a worthy Commander in Chief. He is not a worthy leader of the greatest nation on Earth.

My criticism of his 3 month delay to respond to General McChrystal's request for 40,000 troops and supplies (of which Obama finally gave 30,000 - as if he knows better than the general the right amount of troops needed) has drawn many liberal attacks, mostly by Email. I stated that hesitating, as Obama has, puts the troops' lives at risk, because they need more personnel and supplies.

The typical attack said: "So no soldiers were dying under Bush, and now, suddenly, under a president you don't like, they are?"

George W. Bush cared for the troops, and felt honored to be their Commander in Chief. Obama sees the troops as a political wand to wield. In other words, he is politicizing the military for his own personal reasons.

In combat, hesitation leads to death. In politics, hesitation can also lead to death. Bush did all he could to ensure the troops had adequate personnel, and supplies. Though not always perfect, he never hesitated three months to make a decision regarding the well-being of our fighting men and women. Such delay by Obama has put the troops in grave danger.

Obama, however, doesn't understand the reality of war, or the necessity of being quick about decisions, because he has never served in the military, and he thinks every situation is a community organizer type situation. Commander in Chief is not about being a community organizer. Leading the military means "leading" decisively.

On top of all of this idiocy, he also has set a timeline, setting an arbitrary date of withdrawal - a withdraw date should be dictated by success, not arbitrary dates. Benchmarks are good, but withdrawal dates gives the enemy a date to use for their planning.

As for the fact that he is a Photo-Op President? The video below is pretty clear on that point:
