Allahpundit's pithy summation of Bob Gates' preemptive white-flag-waving: Bend over, 'cause "The courts are coming for us":
The Boy Scouts of America president, Robert Gates, has called for an end to the organization’s ban on gay scout leaders, saying to continue to prohibit gay adults from serving “will be the end of us as a national movement”.
Citing the social, political and judicial changes in the country in regard to LGBT rights, Gates said that the group should change its policy before it is forced to by the court system.
Speaking at the Boy Scouts national business meeting in Atlanta, Gates, the former U.S. secretary of defense, acknowledged he had originally opposed reviewing the issue during his two-year term as BSA president. He said that it is clear now that the ban on gay leaders is an “unsustainable position”.
The fact that Gates stayed on as Barack Obama's SecDef and implemented the sodomizing of the U.S. Armed Forces should tell you all you need to know about where he's coming from on this. He's a RINO squish who is looking at this issue pragmatically instead of through the lens of the traditional American and Judeo-Christian principles upon which the BSA was originally founded. And that, in turn, is revelatory of the degeneration of the BSA in hiring Gates as its president knowing that background, as well as allowing homosexuality to "trickle up" from within the organization.
Oh, to be sure, like the best RINOs, Gates provided plenty of lube for the coming "consummation":
Gates’s solution: Let each troop sponsor set its own standards. If religious sponsors like churches want to maintain the ban on gay Scout leaders, they can. If non-religious sponsors want to allow gay leaders, they can. It’s a federalist-type solution at a moment when the Supreme Court is poised to blow up federalism on gay marriage.
Mayhap it is, mayhap it ain't. But even in the hopeful latter instance, you can still see how that decentralized approach to the queer scoutmaster policy wouldn't abate the BSA's litigation problems in the slightest. The Lavender Lobby wouldn't bother with a "fondle around the edges" strategy but would go straight for the jugular at the top, both in directly forcing the BSA to "taste the rainbow" and in stripping it of its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status if it refused, just as every church and religious-affiliated organization is going to be preparatory to being figuratively and literally raped and plundered if they don't reject Jesus Christ and His Word and acknowledge Soddom & Gomorrah as Lord. Delegating scoutmaster personnel "orientation" decisions to local BSA chapters wouldn't even slow down the dinnermashers. So Mr. Gates isn't even buying time with his recommendation, but trying to make the poison pill slide down a little easier.
But then you have to remember that the Scouts are really in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" position, the proverbial "rock and a hard place". Stand for their founding principles and the Lavender Lobby, through the courts, will eventually destroy them. Capitulate and be assimilated into the Hershey Collective, and parents and religious groups will pull their support and their kids out of the BSA en masse in protest. Either way, the Scouts are doomed - just as militant homosexuals always wanted.
In the bigger picture, evangelical Christians and Catholics are not going to be allowed any redoubt, any refuge, not even any ghetto to which to retreat. Once the BSA is destroyed or assimilated, we can form our own version of the Scouts, but the Lavender Lobby will come after it as well. And religious charities, affiliated businesses, schools, colleges, and yes, churches (though not mosques!), as is already happening with the ObamaCare contraceptive mandate. Militant homosexuals now control and rule American culture, and they will never let us be, they will never live and let live, they will never show us the tolerance that they once demanded of us. We will all be "gay" or we will be destroyed.
And thus it comes down to one simple, straightforward question - the question that Walter Donovan posed to Indiana Jones in the Grail chamber: "It's time to ask yourself what you believe." Bob Gates urges unsustainable compromise. But if the Boy Scouts of America can no longer exist in the United States of America as the Christian-based organization it was originally founded to be, then the only thing it should do voluntarily is close its doors, or fight to - and beyond - the bitter end.
"Over our dead bodies," in so many fewer words.
I'm sure the other side will be happy to oblige.
