Scorching heat has put temperatures as high as 165 degrees in the Middle East, as a "heat dome" passes its way through the region.
"That was one of the most incredible temperature observations I have ever seen — and it is one of the most extreme readings ever in the world," AccuWeather meteorologist Anthony Saglia told the [London] Telegraph of the 165-degree heat-index reading in the western Iran city of Bandar Mahshahr.
Saglia said the heat index — the "feels-like temperature" — in the city was among the highest ever recorded. [emphasis added]
That's an important distinction to make. The world record for highest recorded ambient (shaded) temperature is still 134.06 degrees Fahrenheit on July 10th, 1913 at Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California. The heat index is a figure expressing the discomfort felt as a result of the combined effects of the temperature and humidity of the air. That's why "dry heat" is never as miserable to experience and endure as "wet heat". The former uncomfortable, but the latter can be and oftentimes is lethal:
The world record heat index reading is still 178 degrees Fahrenheit in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, on July 8th, 2003. This will last until the record is shattered in Tel Aviv by anthropogenic means in the not-too-distant future.
Climate change hoaxsters citing this "heat dome" as "further proof" of global warming incoming in five, four, three, two.....
