Thanking the Troops with Baseball

Thanking the troops in even the smallest ways is important, and I am especially happy when a thank you comes unexpectedly.

Tonight, at the beginning of the televised baseball game between the Angels of Anaheim and the Texas Rangers it was announced that tonight's game would be broadcast on the Armed Forces Network, and that members of the U.S. Military would be watching the game from 177 bases and ships around the world.

Rex Hudler, the Angels' sportscaster who is known for being animated, and always holding a baseball in his hand, had this to say in response to the announcement:

"Those are the real gamers. We may be playing for first place, but you are playing for keeps."

Hats off to you, Rex. I am sure a nod of appreciation waved around the world as you uttered those words.
