Lowe's Veteran Samaritan

By Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

My garbage disposal, after twelve years of faithful service, began to struggle months ago. Rather than replace it right away we would unstick it, and then when it began to leak we put a bucket under it. Now, the thing gushes water and spins no more. So, my wife and I went down to the local Lowe's to pick up a new one. I put in the last one, so it never crossed my mind to hire someone to do it (nor would I want to spend that kind of money), but with my health issues of late, my son volunteered to do the unpleasant task.

As we eyeballed the various choices, my wife and I did what we usually do, and went for the least expensive.  We are a fairly frugal pair, which I think is one of the reasons we have weathered various economic storms in our lives.  We are not exactly flush with funds, anyway.  We are not necessarily struggling financially, but we've never been able to fill our coffers with much treasure except for a short period when I was running construction crews and the housing market was going gang-busters.  Otherwise, money has always been fairly tight, and we budget very carefully as a result.

When it was our turn at Lowe's to work with the cashier, she asked me if I wanted a military discount.  As a Navy Veteran who served in the mid-eighties under Ronald Reagan, I was glad to agree to such an opportunity.  Considering this was an expense we pulled from savings for, any help was good help.  So, the lady asked me to enter my phone number, but nothing came up.  "I'll try my old landline number," I said.  Still, nothing.

"Oh," she said.  "You must not have registered for it, yet."

I wish she would have told me that to start with.

"You do it online."

Great.

"Can't I just show you my Veteran's Administration card?"  I asked.  Having possession of such a card reveals I am either retired, or a disabled veteran, the latter of which I am labeled as.

"No, you need to register for this online."

"I see," I said, likely with a dejected tone in my voice.  "Just so I know, what is the discount for military?"

"10%," she replied.

"I see."

At that point a man who was behind me with another cashier turned around and said, "He can use my phone number for the discount."

The woman tilted her head as she acknowledged the new member of the conversation.  She said, "You can't do that, the phone number has to be for the person buying the product."

"Fine," he said, pulling out his red debit card from his wallet, "I will pay for it, then."

My wife gave me a "what is happening?" look.

The man, looking like he was about a decade younger than I, wore a U.S. Marines gray T-Shirt.  "Thank you, Marine," I said.  "I served in the Navy."

"I was Navy too," he said.

He was a Marine, and a sailor?  This was a guy who probably retired from the military.

"You're Welcome," he continued.  "I shop here like five times a week."

Then, as the receipt was printing, he vanished as quickly as he had appeared.

"Did he?" my wife began.

"Yeah," I said.  "He just paid for our garbage disposal.  Veteran helping a veteran.  Very cool."

As we walked outside with our newly purchased appliance, we saw the man getting into his car.  A BMW.  Blue, with rap music coming from the speakers.  I waved, he waved back, and then the black patriot who once served in the Marine Corps and U.S. Navy drove off without a word.

I quipped to my wife, "I am going to guess he's not in agreement with the Black Lives Matter stuff."

She quipped back, "and I am willing to bet he's a Trump voter."

This was important, not only because it revealed that not all blacks are Black Lives Matter supporters, but how people who are not necessarily left-wing, collectivist, socialist radicals believe in looking out for each other.

The narrative by the liberal left Democrats is that they are all about giving, helping, community, and a "we are all in this together" attitude.  In addition to holding themselves up as the saviors of the impoverished and the down-trodden, they also preach that their Republican counterparts are a bunch of racist individualists who believe you are all in this on your own, and don't believe in community where everyone collectively looks out for each other.  The GOP rejects the mantras that it takes a village to raise a child, and a community to make things work in a fair and equitable manner.

Conservatives believe in community, and we believe in looking out for each other.  We do not believe those things should be engineered through government, nor that individuals should be coerced to do so through government mandate, or the redistribution of wealth through taxation.

It all comes down to liberty, and that means it all comes down to choice, and the rule of law.

The Rule of Law, or the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God (as the Declaration of Independence puts it), includes the biblical command that we know as The Golden Rule.  Treat others as we would have them treat us.  Included in that is the idea that we should do right by each other, look out for each other, and that we should do so as individuals on a case by case basis, voluntarily.  In other words, it must be our choice.

The gentleman who helped me out at Lowe's with the purchase of my garbage disposal unit didn't do so because some government mandate said it was his obligation, or because he wanted to reach a point of economic equality between us by redistributing some of his wealth.  He did so because he saw a fellow human being in need, he had the resources to provide for that need, and then he made the choice to do so as in individual.

That's the American way of doing things.  We look out for each other because, understanding the rule of law, we know it's the right thing to do, and because we choose to do so.

Some people don't, and that's okay.  They made that choice.  Liberty means that you not only have the freedom to do the right thing, but sometimes you may actually decide not to.

It's all about Liberty.

Now, if I can just get this dang disposal unit to install properly ...

What replaces Police if they are defunded?

By Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

There's an old saying, "Be careful what you wish for." In my conversations with acquaintances who are Democrats, and support the "Defund the Police" mantra, each and every one of them assured me what was meant is not to completely dismantle the police, but to demilitarize them.

From my observations, the crazy people rioting, I mean peacefully protesting, mean what they say.  They want the police defunded, and dismantled.  They, according to people like the Minneapolis City Council, wish to eliminate police and replace it with something a little more in line with what they believe to be "social justice," through a peaceful, non-police-state-looking, "public safety agency."  A plan, by the way, stopped for the time being in Minneapolis by a volunteer commission who said it's too late to put the plan to toss aside the police in the large Minnesota city on the November Ballot.

Despite the fact that, as the graphic above from Fox News reveals, most people are against less police presence in their community, the liberal left has turned the future of police departments into a major election issue.  And, truth be told, the Floyd protests had little to do with the anti-police position being taken.  It's just an excuse.  Historically, eliminating the law enforcement of the old system is what rebellious insurrectionists do.  Out with the old, in with the new.  The communists in the Soviet Union did it.  The NAZIs did it.  Every dictatorial oligarchy in history does it.

Which brings us back to our original question.  If the police are dismantled, what replaces it?  The Minneapolis dream of loving social workers?  A Black Lives Matter militia?

Like with anything, if you eliminate the police, it will create a void, and that void has to be filled with something.  As we learned in places like Iraq and Libya, if you take out the guy you are not fond of but can often work with, the likely replacement will be something worse.

The Democrats have gone too far to turn around, now.  They are married to the police abolition movement, now.  The question is, as a number of cities around the country move to defund their police, we must ask ourselves, what will be the alternative replacement?

The Democrats are not really sure.  They want social workers, counselors, and peaceful people who can talk to the bad guys who, likely because of racist republicans, are only angry at something like white privilege, and are not really bad guys after all.

Or....

Once the feces smacks the rotating blade, they may go the opposite extreme, as is the historical norm.

In history, when promises to soften the brutality of the law enforcement in place becomes the mantra of a group of radicals calling for a regime change, the replacement turns out to be something worse.

Whatever you wish to call it, in the end, the replacement is always a unified national policing system ... something that stands in stark contrast with the idea of localism envisioned by the Founding Fathers.

In short, understand what we are talking about is the elimination of city police departments and county sheriffs, replacing these agencies with federally controlled enforcers who know nothing about the local flavor of your community, nor do they care.  All they know is that they will be in place to be a strict enforcer of the demands of the central government.  No church services?  No assemblies of large groups?  No non-essential travel?  Don't worry, they will enforce it, with brutal force if necessary.

That's what centralized national policing does.

Secret centrally controlled agents are the natural alternative to standard policing.  Well, there is that, or the sweet community of counselors, who, if you've ever been members of a Home Owners Association before as a comparison, are hardly sweet, and unlikely to be fair and reasonable.

"Rules are rules, and you're breaking them."

Ultimately, that becomes mob rule, which creates chaos, which then ushers in the cries for law and order in a disorderly society, which brings us back to the centrally controlled national law enforcers.  In other words, in the face of chaos, it is usually those who created the chaos who promise order, and they deliver it with gestapo sharp pin-point accuracy.

With such systems comes propaganda, secret torture, and re-education mechanisms to fix and problems with non-compliant citizens.  But, don't worry.  As long as you can escape the "racist" label, you should be fine ... that is, unless your neighbors turn you in.

No, the Republicans did not violate the Hatch Act

By Douglas V. Gibbs

During the Republican National Convention the internet exploded with accusations and articles regarding the Hatch Act.  Well known liberal left websites like The Huffington Post, and media outlets like the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and New York Times, jumped on the bandwagon.  The Party of hatred and false accusations was at it again.  The Democrats, however, this time figured they had something on the GOP that could finally stick.

Except, it doesn't.

The Huffington Post warned, "President Donald Trump’s insistence on using the White House for much of his nominating convention may be pressuring hundreds of staff into violating a federal law prohibiting political activity on government property, ethics experts said. While the president and vice president are exempt from the Hatch Act, employees who work at the White House ― both political appointees and civil servants ― are not exempt, meaning any federal employee who helped stage the various video productions at the Republican National Convention this week or the speeches by Trump and first lady Melania Trump could be exposed to the law’s penalties, which can range from a reprimand to being fired."

The Los Angeles Times scolded, "Inevitably, White House staffers will have to be involved in the logistics for setting up and delivering the speech, as they were in all likelihood for Melania Trump’s speech on Tuesday and for the videos from the White House that have played at the convention.  Even if the employees voluntarily choose to work on such things, it would still violate the Hatch Act. Federal employees are flatly barred from participating in political activities. And pressuring them to do so is a criminal violation under the law."

Not so fast.

An article by David Asp for Middle Tennessee State University explains, "The Hatch Act, an attempt to regulate corruption and possible intimidation of federal employees in the civil service by their elected supervisors, was enacted by Congress in 1939. The act banned the use of federal funds for electoral purposes and forbade federal officials from coercing political support with the promise of public jobs or funds. Sen. Carl Hatch, D-N.M., introduced the act after learning that New Deal–era government programs, specifically the Works Progress Administration, were using federal funds overtly to support Democratic Party candidates in the 1938 elections."

Asp further explains that the Hatch Act has gone through a number of growing pains, and ultimately has been amended a number of times. "In 1940 Congress amended the act to include state and local employees whose salaries included federal funds. The amendment created campaign expenditure limits on political parties and contribution limits on individuals. In 1993 Congress again amended the Hatch Act to allow most federal employees to engage actively in partisan political management and political campaigns. The amendment allowed employees to express opinions on political subjects more openly."

The goal was to ensure the Hatch Act remained true to its original intent without necessarily quelling the First Amendment Rights of federal employees.

If you read the law in its current form, including all of the amendments, you learn that The Hatch Act applies to “federal civilian executive branch employees,” with rare exceptions, as well as to some state, Washington, D.C., and local government employees whose work involves federally funded programs (remember, the 1940 amendment).

The goal based on the current law is to ensure federal programs “are administered in a nonpartisan fashion, to protect federal employees from political coercion in the workplace, and to ensure that federal employees are advanced based on merit and not based on political affiliation.”

The federal employees in question are then divided into “less restricted” and “further restricted” categories.  The less restricted the employees, the more leeway they have when it comes to "taking part in partisan political management or partisan political campaigns."  If they do so, however, they are not supposed to use their titles or positions “while engaged in political activity,” pressure workers to take part in campaigns or use politics to interfere in business pending “before their employing office.”

The employees with heavier restrictions tend to be those working in intelligence or enforcement agencies such as the FBI or Federal Election Commission. They are not allowed to engage in partisan political management or political campaigns.

To the staff, the event at the White House was like any other event.  They were not engaged in political activity, they were simply doing their job.  They were not promoting their political agenda in a corrupt manner, nor were they being forced to promote a political agenda through political activity.  They were simply doing their job of setting up chairs, editing film, or whatever.

As for the accusation regarding Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivering a video from his federally paid for trip to Israel?  He took a moment of his own free time to make the video, and presented himself as a citizen, family man, and American rather than Secretary of State.  The funds to get him to Israel were not for the purpose of the video, therefore federal funds were not misappropriated.

Could some of the Republican National Convention, considering that much of it was at the White House, if you are a nit-picker, be riding the line between violation and non-violation?  I suppose if you really wanted to pick it apart, you could say that.  But based on original intent of the law, and the evolution of the law through amendments, the reality is that no, the Republican Party did not violate the Hatch Act.

God a key issue in upcoming election

By Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

The official meeting of RNC delegates Monday emphasized the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance after a committee and a caucus meeting omitted the words from the pledge during the Democratic National Convention.  --  from CSPAN earlier this morning.

Remember, in 2012 the Democrat Party removed God and positive language about Israel, from their platform.  After criticism, held a vote that was suspect at best, to put God back on their platform, which, after it was decided to do so, the room erupted into boos.

Whether you are a Christian, a Jew, or none of the above, this has got to concern you.  The parties have essentially drawn a line in the sand regarding God.  One is pro-God, one is anti-God.  One wishes to embrace the principles of a Judeo-Christian foundation, and one wants the alternative.  In short, the line in the sand is between good, and evil.  Which side should America stand on?

While God is not a Democrat or a Republican, the leadership of those parties have definitely indicated where they are on the question about whether or not our country should be a godly one, or not.

On 8/2/20, the Washington Examiner noted, “Portland protesters were filmed burning Bibles and the American flag as protests continue in the city for more than two months. Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz responded to a Friday video of people burning what was described as a ‘stack of Bibles’ on Twitter Saturday, saying, ‘This is who they are.’”

In reference to the Bible burning, journalist Ian Miles Cheong, managing editor of Human Events, tweeted, “First they burned the federal buildings, then they burned the churches, now they're burning Bibles. Rather than asking "What is next?" we should ask, "Who is next?"

The Founding Fathers warned that if we abandon God, we are not capable of the U.S. Constitution, and liberty.  France abandoned God in their revolution, and what followed was death, pain, and tyranny.  The same can be said for the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Communist China, and Cuba.  The list is extensive.  If you abandon God, the result is misery, and blood in the streets.

  • Benjamin Franklin wisely determined that “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”

John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

George Washington, in his Farewell Address, said, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports.”

Samuel Adams told us, “The sum of all is, if we would most truly enjoy the gift of Heaven, let us become a virtuous people; then shall we both deserve and enjoy it. While, on the other hand, if we are universally vicious and debauched in our manners, though the form of the Constitution carries the face of the most exalted freedom, we shall in reality be the most abject slaves.”

AOC's Postal Logic

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The postal service has always seemed to have been on the ropes as long as I can remember.  It has always been a testimony to the fact that if the government runs something, they will not run it efficiently, and will likely run it into the ground.  Some folks think we should privatize the post office, but I disagree.  It is a constitutionally enumerated power of the federal government, and so the government needs to figure out a way to make it work.

Member of the United States House of Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has, according to what I was told earlier today, an idea for saving the age-old federal government service.  Get pen pals.  But, don't worry, her idea includes the government getting those pen pals for you, setting up a "progressive pen pal program" which will then encourage you to buy more stamps.

First, in her little video, she actually just says "buy more stamps."  Then she realized, you have to have a reason to buy more stamps.  Besides, consumers simply buying more of a product sounds way too capitalistic.  So then, she launches into the government creating a pen pal program.

And how much money would it cost the government to maintain that pen pal program?  Wouldn't it just be easier to treat the post office like a business, cut the waste, increase efficiency, and create other products for the customers so that they will flock to the post office to use those services?  You know, as if it was a private business figuring out a way to establish some profit?

Naw, that's no good, because AOC wants more government programs, not efficient government programs.  Start hiring, Uncle Sam, we need patriots connecting pen pals nationwide so that people will buy more stamps.

Kamala Harris, the Anti-Christianity, Anti-American Hard Left Choice

By Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

They used to try and hide who they really are.  Now, the Democrat Party proudly throws around their anti-Christian, anti-Israel, anti-American, anti-Liberty, anti-Free Market, anti-Constitution attitude.  They are deconstructionists who are dismantling American History and the American Culture in order to fundamentally transform America into a socialist nightmare.  The most amazing part of it is how they have so many Americans buying into their overthrow of Americanism, without asking questions, without examining the facts.  The whole thing is based on lies, projection, and tyrannical tactics that mirror the efforts of past bloody regimes run by murderous tyrants such as Adolf Hitler, Mao Tse Tung, Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and the Khmer Rouge.  Yet, they don't see it.

The Democrat Party's history of racism is alive and well in the Joe Biden campaign, and has been in every past campaign in our lifetime.  We have just not been able to see it as clearly as we do now.  The totalitarian left is willing to poison the water supply to make sure you behave.  They, largely through social media, are willing to do what they can to support communism's attempt to seize control of our system.  And there are Americans who are not only cheering this kind of authoritarian behavior, they are willing to run to the streets and burn down symbols of law and order and our history to help the cause.  "Defund the police," they scream, which actually means, "let the revolutionaries burn down the system."

The authoritarians of the Democrat Party have politicized healthcare in this country to the point that they are currently controlling us in the name of a virus to the point that it is illegal to go to church, assemble with groups in your own home, or speak out against their idiotic, anti-science mandates.  Meanwhile, they encourage the rioting in the streets of radical street thugs who do so not because they are honestly angry, but because it ushers in opportunities for a new socialist regime.  They are no different than the brown shirts and black shirts of fascism during the last century.

Then, to put the cherry on top of the whole thing, the Democrat Party's presidential candidate has happily picked Kamala Harris as his running mate, a character assassination expert who deployed her skills against Brett Kavanaugh, and who happily promoted a communist front group that put up bail for violent Marxist street thugs.  She's the same power hungry authoritarian who ruthlessly went after pro-life activist David Daleiden, who, if you remember, filmed numerous undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood employees admitting they make huge profits from the sale of tissue from aborted fetuses, and that upset Harris so greatly that she sent a team of heavily armed agents to his home to seize all of his footage.  The Real Kamala Harris then orchestrated an attack against Daleiden that left him nearly ruined, and facing jail time for exposing Planned Parenthood's criminal activity.

Her radical pro-baby-slaughter stance is only the beginning of her Anti-Christian Bigotry. Harris came out in favor of forcing Christians into violating their religious tenets by forcing them to pay for abortion. While attorney general of California she was furious when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Hobby Lobby case that Christian institutions did not have to pay for abortion and contraceptives in their employee healthcare packages. She believed Hobby Lobby should be forced to cover abortion-inducing drugs and devices.  She wrote a brief urging the Supreme Court to take up the case and, when it did, joined with the attorney general of Massachusetts to write an amicus brief arguing that the court should force Hobby Lobby to cover abortifacients.  This premise lurked at the foundation of her argument: When people start for-profit corporations, they must leave their “personal” religious beliefs behind.  In her amicus, Harris suggested that the free exercise of religion is a right created by manmade statutes — not God — and is a “personal” thing that should be kept in an “inner sanctum.”

Kamala Harris, who is not black, by the way, she is half Indian, half Jamaican, according to Trump, is the kind of opponent any GOP candidate would dream of.  She's a radical, supporter of policies that are compromising the family, compromising law and order, and policies that are literally sending Democrat-ruled New York City straight down the tubes.  She hates America, she hates our institutions, and she has even gone so far as to compare ICE to the KKK

In short, radical and unapologetic hard left anti-Christian, anti-American Kamala Harris epitomizes exactly what the Democrat Party has become.  She was the logical choice to be Biden's running mate.

Was Trump an Assassination Target?

By Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

Today's headline read:

Secret Service shoot armed gunman near White House, rush President away from news conference Breaking.

The story states that both the potential gunman and the secrete service agent wound up hospitalized.  President Trump was rushed to the Oval Office, a bullet-proof location that is also able to withstand low-grade explosions.  While the White House grounds were never actually breached, and after President Trump was rushed away from the press conference he was giving, he returned shortly later to complete the conference.  I am surprised he has not been killed, yet.  Trump represents everything they hate, everything that stands in the way of the establishment's push to move America into a global socialist nightmare.

The patience they once had is gone.  They are desperate.  The window is a short one.  It used to be that they were whittling away at a pace that most folks didn't notice.  They have been working on destroying the family unit for their globalist socialist aims, pushing their diversity plan with race-mixing in entertainment (I am not against folks marrying someone of another ethnicity or race, my wife would be considered Latina by those pushing such a thing, I am against it being pushed for political reasons), they have even turned George Floyd into a martyr who, as we are finding out, deserved nothing of the sort.  Through violence and in the name of a virus they have outlawed us from going to church, outlawed the right of assembly, culturally have censored any dissent, and they are working to fundamentally change America into something the Founding Fathers never intended.  They do it for money, and they do it for power, but mostly they do it because they hate liberty.  And now, they are doing it at break-neck speed because Trump and his supporters have thrown a stick in their spokes, and are exposing them for who they are.

Chicago Looting Coordinated Effort

By Douglas V. Gibbs
Author, Speaker, Instructor, Radio Host

Over the weekend I was perplexed when I read that at a film festival in Portland, Oregon, Kindergarten Cop was banned from the list of films to be shown.  It was filmed locally in Astoria (not too far from where much of The Goonies was filmed), with the excuse that the film "glorifies police," and that it "glorified the traumatization of children by police."  Critics of the film festivals decision to even have the film on their list in the first place compared Kindergarten Cop to other "racist" films such as Gone with the Wind, and Birth of a Nation (an attempt to provide a positive depiction of the Ku Klux Klan that Democrat President Woodrow Wilson was willing to show at the White House during his residency as President of the United States).

Are we now comparing your local police to the KKK?

There is nothing the police can do in the eyes of the Black Lives Matter leftists that the radicals can't spin as being racist, and launch more people into rioting and looting.

In Chicago an armed burglar was shot by police, and it triggered mass rioting and mass looting.  As businesses flee the area due to the constant looting, the protesters hit a luxury shopping district called the Magnificent Mile.

At what point will they come to the conclusion that if they keep attacking the hand that feeds them, the businesses will go away permanently?

What was worse was that the actions taken by the looters was not some angry, random response.  The effort was coordinated.  They are now planning their stealing sprees, doing what they can to time them with incidents they can claim are police brutality.  The sheer number of looters have overwhelmed police.  The city felt the danger was so out of control that they raised their draw bridges to contain the war zone within the city.

The ridiculous nature of the whole thing was so in-your-face evident that even Jesse Jackson condemned it in a Tweet: "This act of pillaging, robbing & looting in Chicago was humiliating, embarrassing & morally wrong."

I miss Sunday Brunch, Democrats are happy about it

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Sometimes, after church, despite the crowds, my wife and I would participate in Sunday Brunch.  While my wife was not a fan of it due to the massive congregation of folks at the restaurants offering brunch, it was fun for me because it was the opportunity to spend extended time with those who I fellowship with at church.  Except, now conversations could flow, and personalities revealed themselves. It was an opportunity to fellowship with like-minds as we broke bread together.

I got to thinking about brunch this morning, not because I traveled by a restaurant that used to hold such meals, but because of McDonald's.

Perhaps, that seems like a strange connection.

I am not normally a fan of McDonald's.  They constantly find a way to mess up my order, and the food is overall not very healthy for you.  An occasional visit, however, can be satisfying.  They do, after all, have the best french fries out there, and I am particularly fond of their quarter pounder, breakfast burritos, and sausage egg muffin sandwich.

For a while they were serving breakfast all day to compete with places like Jack in the Box, but recently did away with that.  No worries, on Sundays they have always extended their breakfast to 11:30 am.  This morning I had a hankering for a couple breakfast burritos and got in line at the drive-thru around 11:10 am.  "We stopped serving breakfast," came the reply.

A later conversation with the manager on the phone revealed that since folks aren't going to church, late visitors for breakfast doesn't exist.  More people want lunch at that late moment in the morning, now.  Church-goers are staying home, and therefore, are having breakfast at home.

What an interesting turn of events.  In the name of a virus, a minor one at that, we have accepted a government mandate not to go to church, which has also led to Christians spending less time in assembly with each other in other aspects, as well.  We aren't having Bible Studies, we aren't even going to Sunday Brunch, much less McDonald's for a late breakfast.

A New York Times article nearly twenty years ago revealed to us that what we are seeing now by the liberal left is not much unlike Nazi Germany's persecution of the Christian Church eighty years ago.

Among the realities of Nazi Germany was the fact that the National Socialists, like their communist counterparts, abhorred Christianity, and sought to end church gatherings.  In a 108-page outline prepared by O.S.S. investigators to aid Nuremberg prosecutors, titled ''The Persecution of the Christian Churches,'' a summary has been offered regarding the Nazi plan to subvert and destroy German Christianity.  Destroying the Christian faith, according to the German Nazi leadership, was considered ''an integral part of the National Socialist scheme of world conquest.''

From the NY Times article:
In the 1920's, as they battled for power, the Nazis realized that the churches in overwhelmingly Christian Germany needed to be neutralized before they would get anywhere. Two-thirds of German Christians were Protestants, belonging to one of 28 regional factions of the German Evangelical Church. Most of the rest were Roman Catholics. On one level, the Nazis saw an advantage. In tumultuous post-World War I Germany, the Christian churches ''had long been associated with conservative ways of thought, which meant that they tended to agree with the National Socialists in their authoritarianism, their attacks on Socialism and Communism, and in their campaign against the Versailles treaty'' that had ended World War I with a bitterly resentful Germany.
But there was a dilemma for Hitler. While conservatives, the Christian churches ''could not be reconciled with the principle of racism, with a foreign policy of unlimited aggressive warfare, or with a domestic policy involving the complete subservience of Church to State.'' Given that these were the fundamental underpinnings of the Nazi regime, ''conflict was inevitable,'' the summary states. It came, as Nazi power surged in the late 1920's toward national domination in the early 30's.
According to Baldur von Schirach, the Nazi leader of the German youth corps that would later be known as the Hitler Youth, ''the destruction of Christianity was explicitly recognized as a purpose of the National Socialist movement'' from the beginning, though ''considerations of expedience made it impossible'' for the movement to adopt this radical stance officially until it had consolidated power, the outline says.
Attracted by the strategic value inherent in the churches' ''historic mission of conservative social discipline,'' the Nazis simply lied and made deals with the churches while planning a ''slow and cautious policy of gradual encroachment'' to eliminate Christianity.
The prosecution investigators describe this as a criminal conspiracy. ''This general plan had been established even before the rise of the Nazis to power,'' the outline says. ''It apparently came out of discussions among an inner circle'' comprised of Hitler himself, other top Nazi leaders including the propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, and a collection of party enforcers and veteran beer-hall agitators.

The regional branches of the German Evangelical Church, the main Protestant body, were often administered and financed through governmental agencies. The Nazis saw a distinct advantage in having Protestant churches ''whose supreme administrative organs were located within the borders of Germany,'' the outline says. This facilitated plans ''to capture and use the church organization for their own purposes'' and ''to secure the elimination of Christian influences in the Evangelical Church by legal or quasi legal means.''
The Roman Catholic Church, centrally administered from Rome, posed a different problem for the Nazis, whose relationship with that church in the 1920's had been bitter. In 1933, when Germany was under Hitler's total control, the Nazis made ''unmistakable overtures'' to the Christian churches in general, and to Catholics in particular.
Having already witnessed fairly smooth relations after the 1929 Lantern treaty between Mussolini's fascist regime and the church in Italy, many German Catholics ''accepted the Nazi proposition'' of peaceful coexistence. In July 1933, a Concordat was signed between the Reich and the Holy See.
''For the first time since the Middle Ages, the Reich itself had entered into an agreement with the Roman Catholic Church,'' the outline says. ''Moreover, the new treaty was apparently entirely to the advantage of the church. In return for the retreat of German Catholicism from the political scene, the church was guaranteed, by international treaty, freedom for Catholic organizations [and] maintenance of denominational schools and youth education.''
All Hitler seemed to demand in return was ''a pledge of loyalty by the clergy to the Reich government and a promise that Catholic religious instruction would emphasize the patriotic duties of the Christian citizen.'' This posed no big problem for the church, the outline asserts. ''Since it had always been the practice of the Catholic Church to abide by established governments and to promote patriotic convictions among the faithful, these stipulations of the Concordat were no more than legalizations of an existing custom. The Concordat was hailed by church and state authorities as marking the beginning of a close and fruitful collaboration.''
Of course, the churches stayed in Hitler's good graces for only as long as the Nazis considered their cooperation expedient. Soon after Hitler assumed dictatorial powers, ''relations between the Nazi state and the church became progressively worse,'' the outline says. The Nazis ''took advantage of their subsequently increasing strength to violate every one of the Concordat's provisions.''
In 1937, Pope Pius XI denounced Nazi treachery in an encyclical that accused Hitler of ''a war of extermination'' against the church. The battle had been joined on some fronts. Nazi street mobs, often in the company of the Gestapo, routinely stormed offices in Protestant and Catholic churches where clergymen were seen as lax in their support of the regime.

The dissident pastor Martin Niemoller spoke openly now against state control of the Protestant churches. He was arrested and imprisoned in 1937 for using his pulpit for ''underhand attacks on state and party.'' When a judge acquitted him, ''on leaving court he was arrested by the Gestapo and sent to a concentration camp where he remained until the end of the war,'' says the outline.
Without going through the rest of the article, I believe the obvious is clear.  As did Nazi Germany, today's socialists who call themselves Democrats hate Christianity, and are doing all that they can to kill the Christian Faith.  In 2012 they tried to vote God off of their platform.  Now, in the name of a virus, they have again turned against God, this time using the fears of the people to disallow church services and gatherings.

Like the Nazis, and like Karl Marx (who "saw the eradication of religion as the absolute sine qua non of a “just” socialist society"), they see Christianity as an obstacle, and it is their goal to end the faith in America, believing that if they do so, all of their opposition will be silenced and their obstacles will be removed.  Then, socialism may be implemented unimpeded.

A loss of church services and Sunday Brunch, here in America, is only the beginning.

I can only hope that like the Black Robed Regiment during the American Revolution that pastors in America will recognize the true danger, and quit separating religion and politics and realize that unless Christians across America stand in unison against the rising tyranny, American Liberty is doomed to indeed become just another fallen idea in the dustbin of history.
