Obama, Education, and Saving an Agenda

By Douglas V. Gibbs

On September 8th, the day after Labor Day, Barry will address the children of America. The teachers have been instructed to prepare the children for the speech, and give commentary to them afterward. The kids were originally supposed to write a letter or essay about how they can help the president, too. The Department of Education removed the assignments portion after outrage by parents. Making the kids watch the speech, and then holding them accountable to their teachers on giving a proper liberal response, was just too much.

The timing is awful. Obama is the first president in history to do this, and his timing coincides with his policies falling flat. He needs to do something to change America's opinion about his health care bill, and the children seem a reasonable target to him.

Could you imagine, as Bush's approval numbers began to plummet, if Dubya decided to speak to America's school children, asking them to "help the president"? The Left would have gone insane.

But that is exactly what Obama is doing. He is speaking to the schoolchildren in classrooms across America to help kick off the school year, and the impression he is sending is that as his approval rating continues to nose dive, he has to get to the children to stop it.

The topic of his speech to the children seems fine. It's about education. Doing well. Being the best you can be.

Remember, originally materials were to be distributed as well including having the students answer, "What specific job is the president asking me to do?"

The children are also being encouraged to ask themselves the question, "What can I do to help the President?" Oops, that's right, they got caught on that one - it has been scrapped.

Kids in higher grades are being asked, "What is the president inspiring me to do?"

Isn't the president supposed to serve the people (not the other way around)?

Children understand that the President of the United States is the highest office in our government. They wish to follow the president's lead. Unfortunately, to these easily molded minds, he is like the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

What does this kind of move remind you of?

Does the Hitler Youth come to mind? Does the communist practice of brainwashing the children, and encouraging the children to turn against their parents should the parents be opposed to The State come to mind?

Obama is in constant campaign mode, and he is losing the adults, so now he is marketing himself to the kids. Is it so the kids will convince mom and dad to agree with his policies?

Remember when Al Gore told kids they knew more than their parents about the environment, and "don't listen to your parents"?

This is creepy, but it is a typical liberal (and fascist) tactic.

Change. . . through the brainwashing of the children.

Creepy, indeed.

Keep your kids home that day.
