Hugo Chavez of Venezuela: U.S. Military Caused Earthquake in Haiti

By Douglas V. Gibbs

It is amazing that when disaster strikes on the level of "biblical proportions" the various religious talkers begin to proclaim their reasons for the tremendous tragedy.

Contrary to biblical teachings that the debt has already been paid by The Cross, Pat Robertson declared the Haiti Earthquake was brought upon the Haitians as punishment for their "deal with the devil" generations ago.

From the church of Climate Change, Danny Glover blamed the earthquake on global warming - and the religion of global warming is good at blaming everything that happens on mankind's disregard for his carbon emissions. Hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms, heat waves, and now earthquakes! Yet, there is no way in Hell humanity could affect the weather in such a way short of a nuclear holocaust. In fact, isn't it beginning to feel a little cold around here?

But the looniest of all comes from the church of "America is to blame for everything." I don't know if you would call him a socialist priest, totalitarian bishop, or stall-boy shoveling crap, but Hugo Chavez has declared that the massive earthquake in Haiti was caused by - wait for it - the United States Navy testing a weapon capable of inducing a powerful earthquake.

Who's the next target, according to Chavez?

Iran, of course.

Wow, American technology is amazing, isn't it? Reverend Jeremiah Wright says we created AIDS to kill black people, Al Gore says we created global warming through industrial growth that will eventually kill everyone (except those of us that grow gills, I suppose), and now Hugo Chavez says we have created an earthquake weapon to take over the world.

Dr. Evil would be jealous.
