Local Elections Influenced by Tea Party Wildfire

Just when it would seem that the defining-moment message of discontent has been sent to the standing government for its irresponsible spending and blinders-on leadership, another story pops up.

It’s arguable that such a message first came when John McCain saw a significant bounce following his unveiling of Sarah Palin as his running mate a year and a half ago. Then, Scott Brown pulls the Senate-seat upset in Massachusetts. Then, Constitution minded Texas Congressman Ron Paul — a Republican-registered libertarian — wins the straw poll at the CPAC convention.

But now the grassroots wildfire is growing in new directions.

As America looks for clarity inside the excitement of this spontaneous and suddenly powerful movement, few can stand as a better authority than Ned Ryun, President of the American Majority, which is turning this neo-movement into something real at the polls.

Ned is the son of a former U.S. Congressman Jim Ryun and was a speechwriter for President George W. Bush. Today, at the forefront of his organization, Ned has trained more than 5,000 political candidates to run for office, most standing high on the platform of Tea-Party ideals.

With the likes of Ned backing this new generation of politicians, the movement is taking root where, perhaps, it matters most — at the local level — in places like Dallas where primaries are being impacted and voter turnout is higher than ever. And in Detroit, where Tea Party voters are affecting metro and state referendum outcomes.

But maybe the latest statement of change against the government status quo? In England, of all places, where politician Daniel Hannan is picking up America’s Tea Party torch and waving it on the floor in Parliament.

How far will this movement really go?

Tonight's guest on the Political Pistachio Radio Revolution offers a very astute argument on the “government by the people” revival happening all across the country and now, apparently, around the world too. For virtually any political issue today, Ned Ryun is truly the go-to voice.

When asked which Founding Father he relates to most with, and why, Ryun answered, “Roger Sherman. I am fascinated by a man who is not well known, but who signed the Articles of Confederation, helped draft and then signed the Declaration of Independence, and then also signed the Constitution and was a member of the First Congress, sitting on the committee that helped draft the Bill of Rights. He had a tremendous impact on the founding of this country.”

At American Majority, they believe that real political change begins at the local level. It is going to take engaged citizens working together in their communities to effectively implement freedom on a national level. American Majority believes that individual liberty will only be achieved through limited government and free markets and that by training candidates and activists to be effective towards those goals today, we will enhance tomorrow.

American Majority is a national non-profit, non-partisan political training institute whose mission is to train and equip a national network of leaders committed to individual freedom through limited government and the free market. Headquartered in Purcellville, Virginia, the organization currently has state offices in Arkansas, Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Texas, with plans to open additional state offices in 2010.

The organizational philosophy remains centered around the grassroots. American Majority works hard to ensure premier training programs are accessible to activists and candidates around the country. Since the organization's inception in 2008, they have conducted hundreds of training sessions in dozens of states, providing resources and education to more than 5,000 candidates and grassroots activists.
