Obama's Smoking Habit, High Cholesterol, and Lectures From Michelle

Get Liberty

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Barry likes his southern style fried foods, cigarettes, alcohol, and Lord knows what else.

Shhhh, don't tell Michelle!

Doctors have warned Barack Obama about his high cholesterol and smoking habit. And shortly after the doctors had a word with him about his cholesterol, Barry helped himself to a full-fledged southern fried meal in Georgia that prompted him to jokingly say, "I don't want any lectures about my cholesterol. Don’t tell Michelle."

Honestly, I don't care if he eats a whole bucket of fried chicken, smokes a pack a day, and downs a six-pack of beer just before bed. He can eat spicy hot cheetos, and pour liters of salt all over his food, for all I care. It is the hypocrisy of people like Obama that really has me boiling.

Michelle Obama has a legitimate concern about childhood obesity, and I am glad she wishes to bring it to everyone's attention. But Michelle isn't stopping at the "educating the people" doorstep. She desires legislation that will force people to feed their kids as the government sees fit. The Democrats are also behind the push for legislation to control trans-fats, salt, sodas, cigarette smoking, and anything else they think they should be able to regulate.

Some behaviors should just not be legislated in such a way, especially by the federal government.

I love to drink Dr. Pepper. I probably drink way too much. I am fully aware it is not good for me, and I usually take actions to limit my soda intake. That, however, should be my decision, not the government's.

So while Obama correctly indicates he shouldn't be lectured about his eating habits, it is his very comrade in arms in the liberal Democrat Party (and his wife) that are going around telling America what they can eat, what to feed their kids, and if they can smoke.

And think about this: If they are trying to legislate what you can and can't do right now, just imagine how much they will try to control your behaviors, eating habits, and so forth if they gain control over the health care industry like they want to. In the name of saving the tax payer money they will tell you what you can and can't eat and drink, mandate exercise programs, outlaw cigarettes, limit alcohol, and so forth. And then, if you come down with a health problem they believe was caused by your poor behaviors, they will deny you medical attention, and ration it to someone else more deserving.

That is how tyrannies work.

Now, will someone please pass the salt?
