Stimulus Exceeds "Bush's War" in Cost

By Douglas V. Gibbs

We heard it often. The liberal talking point was that the Iraq War was costing too much, that our nation was going bankrupt because of Bush's War, that our economy was in shambles because of all the money that Bush spent.

However, what those same leftists won't tell you is that just the first two years of Obama's stimulus cost more than the entire cost of the Iraq War under President Bush, or six years of that war.

How many times have you debated a liberal, and once you brought into the equation the out of control spending by the Democrats, the liberal Democrat says, "Bush's deficits were worse."

Not that I am defending Bush's spending habit, but comparing W's spending to Obama's spending is like comparing a golf divot to the Grand Canyon.

You tell me which is bigger? $709 billion for the war? Or trillions upon trillions upon trillions of dollars by Obama?

And also, consider this. The war kept America safe. The Obama spending plan is destroying our economy, and will compromise our ability to defend ourselves ultimately, because there won't be any money left for the military.
