Decision Points, and the George W. Bush I Remember

By Douglas V. Gibbs

George W. Bush has emerged back on the political scene with the release of his memoirs, Decision Points. He has been interviewed by all of the major voices, it seems, even making an appearance on Rush Limbaugh's show (where you almost never see guests at).

I remember the good and bad with George W. Bush. It is clear that he was not the conservative he claimed to be when it came to many issues. After all, it was the Bush administration that orchestrated the first bailout (TARP), it was the Bush administration that launched the big government "No Child Left Behind" program, and it was the Bush administration that also launched the massive expansion of Medicare and pharmaceuticals.

Despite Bush's progressive domestic policies, he was the right president in office for 9/11. A sincere man, Bush hardly fits the evil caricature the liberal left made him out to be. In fact, if there were failures in his presidency, it is because of his big government programs, not his intent to protect the nation from radical Islam.
