Republican Win is only the First Step

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The GOP gained control over the House of Representatives, and made ground in the U.S. Senate.

Now the work is just beginning.

Understand that now it is going to get real difficult. Remember that the liberal left is vicious, and now that Republicans have gained the House, the attacks will be relentless (Remember Gingrich and DeLay?).

Also, the Republicans have a lot to prove. The American People put them in office, but the GOP is on probation. One tax raise, one earmark, one false move, and the pendulum will swing the other way just as quickly.

This is why they need to push as many bills as they can to repeal all of what Obama has done.

Yes, yes, I know, we don't have the votes to override a veto by Obama. But that is kind of the point. Push the bills to repeal health care, and then let Obama veto it. A week or two later, push another bill to repeal health care, and let him veto that one too. Make the Democrats own their mistakes. Make it so that the GOP can say "we tried to reverse it," so that when it all fails miserably, all fault lies with the Democrats.

Don't give Obama any opportunity to blame the GOP in 2012.

Do the same with the idiotic environmental legislation, and the idiotic Climate Change legislation, and so on and so forth. Make the Democrats own the misery.

And if the Republicans don't do this, then we need to hold their feet to the fire and remind them why we put them in office.
