2nd Amendment Exists to Protect Us From Government Tyranny

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." - - Thomas Jefferson; November 13, 1787 in a letter to William S. Smith.

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed...." - - Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, 1787

By Douglas V. Gibbs

While telling the story about how I ended my wedding anniversary by still conducting my Constitution Class in Temecula, California, I realized that it is a surprise the liberals aren't having a hissy fit over where my class is held. The class, where I remind people often about their constitutional right to keep and bear arms, is conducted at a gun shop. The store is owned by a patriot who loves the Constitution as much as I do, sees eye to eye with me on the original intent of the Constitution, recognizes the importance of State sovereignty and the limiting principles against an expanding federal government, and the reality that when the Founding Fathers wrote the 2nd Amendment their primary motive was to ensure that the citizens remained armed just in case the central government became oppressive and revolution needed to take place once again.

More amazing than the appropriate location of the class (appropriate to those who love the Constitution. . . not necessarily to the liberal left loons) is the fact that the gun shop, and my class, is about half a block up, and across the street, from a college campus. It is safe to say, considering the proximity of the college campus to armed patriots in a gun shop, that this college campus will never have to endure a shooting. Shooters tend to conduct that kind of madness in places where they think they can have free reign, which means they are likely to go on a shooting spree in gun-free zones. That way, everyone is a target, and nobody is a danger to the shooter.

Fact is, gun restrictions result in the loss of life. Gun control measures make for a more dangerous society. Madmen still find ways to get their hands on guns. Without an armed public, there is no deterrent against these madmen, or against a government that wants to be oppressive against the citizenry.

An armed public are populated by citizens. An unarmed public are a bunch of subjects.

The Second Amendment protects us from the madmen of the streets, and the tyrants of government.
