Santorum Quits

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Rick Santorum has officially suspended his presidential campaign, leaving the Tea Party folks and conservatives no choice but to either embrace Mitt Romney, or run for the hills.

Santorum has been a formidable opponent, or at least more so than expected, and he gave hope to those sick of seeing the GOP establishment continuously getting their way in the primaries.  Romney, however, has proven that a lot of money, and attack ads, win in the end.  That, combined with Santorum dealing with his three-year-old daughter's illness, has proven too much for him to overcome in the sense of the election.

It was a good run, and I believe Santorum successfully bumped Romney to the right during this campaign. The question is, will Romney keep leaning right, even after elected, or will it become exactly what his staff member suggested. . . an etch-a-sketch move right back to RINO-hood?
