Obama: The Anti-Israel President, Feuds with Netanyahu

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Shortly after the Democrats at their convention dropped Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and then against the vote of the delegates added it back, The Obama White House has engaged in an open feud with Israel's leadership. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, sharply criticized recent statements about Iran by the White House. President Barack Obama would not meet with Mr. Netanyahu afterward.

Remember, Obama in the 2008 campaign for President said he would not meet with Iran's Ahmadinejad with pre-conditions.

Hillary Clinton said in response to Netanyahu's recent comments that the United States will not set deadlines for negotiations with the Iranian government, regardless of Israel's warnings that Iran was getting closer and closer to getting a nuclear bomb.

The White House said Obama will also not meet with Mr. Netanyahu when he travels to the United States this month for the UN General Assembly session, but the reason given is that the two men will not be in New York on the same day.

Israeli media reports that Mr. Netanyahu offered to travel to Washington for a meeting, but the offer was denied by the White House.

U.S. defense secretary Leon Panetta regarding Israeli pressure to set “red lines” for military intervention, told CBS television that the U.S. would have at least a year to take action once Tehran had made a decision to build a nuclear weapon.

Netanyahu is asking why America wants to wait? It has become clear that diplomacy will not work with Iran.

“The world tells Israel, `Wait. There’s still time,’” Netanyahu said. “And I say: `Wait for what? Wait until when?’ Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.”

“If Iran knows that there is no deadline, what will it do? Exactly what it’s doing. It’s continuing, without any interference, towards obtaining nuclear weapons capability and from there, nuclear bombs,” he said.
