Boston Marathon Bomber Brothers: Manhunt Over - One Dead, One In Custody

By Douglas V. Gibbs

As the news unfolded today, one of the things we learned early was that the brothers behind the massacre of innocent Americans at the Boston Marathon finish line were members of our society, had blended into our culture without a single person knowing what these guys were capable of, and their actions were influenced by Islam. Natives of Chechnya, refugees of the bloody conflict between Chechnya and Russia according to the Washington Post, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev lived in the United States for a decade.  As their identities became available to the public, after the older brother, Tamerlan, was killed in a shootout this morning, questions began to arise.  Were they just a couple of lone wolves?  Were they members of a larger terrorist group?  Did the brothers have connections to al-Qaeda?

Four days after pressure-cooker bombs ripped through a crowd at the Boston Marathon, investigators identified the Chechen brothers, but released little information for public consumption.  A citizen tipster, who saw the older brother's bloody body in hiding, provided police with the whereabouts of the older brother, and what followed was an intense shootout. The biggest manhunt in Boston's history was not over, however.  The younger brother remained at large, and he was still armed and dangerous.

As news of the death of the older brother spread through the media, a cheer bubbled up through Boston, and America.  Bells rang, flags waved, and applause rose up every time an emergency vehicle went by.

Three hundred thousand tips came in by the minute.  Darkness marched near.  Capture of the younger brother was evading authorities.  Then, about a mile from where the older brother was caught in a shootout, the younger brother was captured, and in an ironic twist, rushed to a hospital where a number of his victims remain.

The suspects were educated, and lived well.  They were not steeped in poverty, which is contrary to the liberal left's suggestion that radical Islamists become terrorists because of their living conditions.  The leftist proposal fails to recognize, by design, the violent teachings of Muhammadism.  As for any connections to al-Qaeda, none have been revealed, but the older brother was sympathetic to the terrorist organization.

As the day progressed, the reporters kept asking, "What provoked these brothers to act in such a violent manner?"  The media searched for reasons, for signs of the Chechens feeling like outsiders, or problems in their home life.  Nothing rose to the surface.  The answer remained clear.  The motivation was Islam.  People who knew the Tsarnaev pair say the brothers were nice people, and nobody saw this coming.  They were good people, it is being said, that became radicalized.  Perhaps the truth is something else.  Maybe, they were radicals practicing taqiyya, lying to protect their Islamic ties, lying in wait to orchestrate violence against America.

One question remains.  How many other seemingly innocent jihadists are out there in our society, hiding their Islamist allegiance, living among us, waiting for their chance to commit violence against the Great Satan?
