Tennessee Nuclear Plant Scene of Shots Fired

By Douglas V. Gibbs

After being questioned by a security officer at the TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant in Spring City, Tennessee, an individual opened fire on the security officer.  The officer fired back, and called for backup.  The suspect used a boat to escape from the scene.

Fascinatingly, officials labeled the incident as an “unusual event,” which is the lowest level of its four emergency classifications.  Would not an armed assailant on the property of a nuclear power plant elicit more response than the lowest of four emergency classifications?

With Muslim religious leaders calling for Muslim terrorists in the United States to step up their jihadist efforts, would not a greater concern be warranted?  Remember, this follows an attack at the Boston Marathon, and an explosion in Texas of which the cause is still not known.

The shooting at this nuclear power plant may be an isolated incident, but considering we are dealing with an attack on a nuclear power plant, it just seems to me that the situation warrants more concern than it is getting.
