Snowden: Whistleblower? Or Traitor?

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Senator Diane Feinstein says, Edward Snowden, the man who leaked secrets about National Security Agency surveillance of Americans to the press, is a traitor.

Remember, the liberal left sees patriotism as being a love of government, not a love of country.

The name of the program Snowden exposed is called PRISM.  It is a program that the federal government uses to snoop on Americans.  He acted as a whistleblower, exposing the tyranny of the Obama administration, but he did not use proper whistleblower protocols.  We have an administration willing to do everything they can for power, and to silence the opposition, and now Snowden has become enemy #1.

If the President was a republican, of course Snowden would be considered a whistleblower, and the political establishment, and the press, would be doing everything in their power to bring down the President.  However, the man in the White House is not only a democrat, but the first black to hold the office, so they are doing more than just circle the wagons.  Snowden did not go the route of whistleblowers, so he will be crucified.

Does Snowden deserve that crucifixion, since he failed to use the legal protections of being a whistleblower?

Snowden says he wanted to let America know about what was going on starting within a year of his working at the CIA in 2007. He worked with the NSA as an outside contractor. He got hired by American Intelligence without any education, because he is a tech specialist.

Now, he is hiding in Hong Kong.  Is it a coincidence he is geographically so close to China?

He didn't necessarily give away any national secrets.  He exposed the federal government's intelligence community's snooping practices.  He revealed a process that's taking place.  Does that really make him a traitor?
