What? There is a Santa Claus? And he's not from Akron?
Fox News host Bill O'Reilly defended fellow Fox host Megyn Kelly Monday night, saying that Santa Claus is indeed white. This requires a defense?
But, he noted, it doesn't really matter.
What with Santa Claus being fictional and all.
Kelly came under fire last week after saying that both Santa and Jesus were white men. She was responding to a Slate article by Aisha Harris, who wrote an opinion piece titled "Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore."
Oh, indeed. Since there is no such thing as "Santa Claus" outside a Tim Allen movie trilogy, why not put the jolly old elf through species-reassignment? Or gender reassignment, for that matter? Unless he really is from Akron.
Here's a thought - might that have been where the Grinch came from? Dr. Seuss never did fill in his backstory, y'know.
"When I saw this headline I kinda laughed and I said, 'Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it’s racist to have a white Santa,'" Kelly said. "And by the way, for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white."
"Just" white? What the hell is that supposed to mean, Megyn? Huh? Huh?
A firestorm of criticism erupted, especially after Kelly had just told Tonight Show host Jay Leno days earlier that she isn't one of the opinion hosts on Fox News.
Just imagine, gentles, they think they're serious. Or is it just ObamaCare spin vertigo?
Critics said St. Nicholas, the model for Santa Claus, was from what is modern-day Turkey, and Jesus was a Middle-Eastern Jew. Both had dark skin, they said.
But O'Reilly said Turks today don't consider themselves nonwhite.
I don't mean to nitpick here, but how do Mrs. Kelly's critics know what color the skin of St. Nicholas or Christ was? Didn't they both live quite a piece in advance of the invention of the camera? Or is this just a backdoor way of saying that there can be no such thing as a messiah who doesn't look exactly like Barack Obama?
Vector Sigma. Alan Funt must be spinning in his grave.
UPDATE: If Bill O'Reilly is right and this foolishness was just another flimsy attack angle on Fox News - and he probably is - then what are we to make of FNC rolling out Juan Williams to make an even bigger ass of himself on the non-question of Jesus Christ's ethnicity than Aisha Harris did?
So Genghis Khan is the true Savior of the world? Wow, who knew?
Are we really having these conversations?
