Marsha Blackburn Slams 'Science Guy' On Climate Change

by JASmius

Well lookie what we have here - a House Republican actually "fighting"!  True, Representative Blackburn was only "fighting" Bill Nye The Science Guy, but at least it's something:

The government can't make sustainable laws on climate change if the legislation is based on "unproven sciences," Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn insisted Sunday, saying "cost-benefit analysis" must take place when dealing with environmental issues.

But Bill Nye "The Science Guy," who appeared with Blackburn for a mini-debate on NBC's "Meet the Press," implored the Tennessee lawmaker to stop wasting time with denials that the climate is changing and to start doing something about the issue.
Yeah, Congresswoman Blackburn, stop wasting time citing facts and evidence, just blindly get with the pagan, impoverishing, tyrannizing program.

It was a fairly standard-issue exchange on this topic, although what stood out to me was that Bill Nye was on this show at all.  He's a "celebrity scientist" at best, an entertainer, and consequently someone who I would think would want to avoid "controversial" topics.  Yet now, for some reason, he's wading into "climate change" hoaxery.  Which, in turn, is interesting, coming as it does only a week or so after Nye had that big debate with Ken Ham over the origins "controversy," in which he took the role of "denier" and got his head handed to him.  Maybe Nye figured he'd have an easier time against a House Republican.

As it turned out, not so much:

"What we have to do is look at the information we get from climate scientists, and as you said, there is not agreement around the fact of exactly what is causing this," said Blackburn, the vice chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, pointing out that Nye is not a climate scientist, but an "engineer and actor."

Nye shot back that climate change legislation is not only necessary, but patriotic. He said he believes the United States should lead the charge and innovate, rather than follow other countries such as China or Great Britain. This could benefit the United States not only in terms of curbing climate change, but also benefit the country financially.
Further depressing the economy is "patriotic"?  Now he sounds like Joe Biden.  And Red China, the biggest belcher of greenhouse gases and every other kind of pollutant on the planet, an "innovator" on combatting "climate change"?  Seriously?

He also said that Blackburn and others who deny climate change are trying to introduce uncertainty rather than solutions.

“This is unscientific, this is not logical,” he said. “It is a way, apparently, that the fossil fuel industry had dealt with our politics. This is not good. You don’t need a PhD in climate science to understand what’s going on, that we have overwhelming evidence that the climate is changing. That you cannot tie any one event to that is not the same as doubt about the whole thing.”
Not acting prematurely based upon inconclusive evidence is entirely scientific and logical.  This is yet another example of both the rank dishonesty of the Left and how they corrode the language by not-so-subtley politicizing terms.  Nye's argument is, essentially, "Do what we say and shut up."  Which is precisely what I would expect from a celebrity and entertainer who doesn't know what he's talking about but, as a member in good standing of the "right tribe," is groundlessly imbued with gravitas and "expert" status that he does not deserve.

Press The Meat host David Gregory jumped in with both feet to make this a tag team match, naturally.  But then you knew that.
