Michael Barone: Hillary Can't Win Democrat Nomination On Her Own

by JASmius

Nice to see the dean of moderate political analysts jumping aboard the "Not Ready For Hillary!" bandwagon:

Hillary Clinton could face an uphill battle in her presumed quest to become president — from her own party, says Michael Barone, senior political analyst for the Washington Examiner....

'The problem she faces, on the one hand, it's clear that she would be better off in the general election running for the third Clinton term rather than the third Obama term.

"But it's also clear that the rising tide of sentiment in the Democratic Party is on the left,'' he said Monday.

First of all, we don't have to worry about Hillary running for the third Obama term because Barack Obama will be handling that task.

However, on the off chance that there is a 2016 election, we also don't have to worry about the Empress running (again) for the third Clinton term because of my oft-stated reasons: The Democrats are not dynastic (the Kennedys excepted).  They don't nominate "the next in line".  They DO nominate the young, dynamic, charismatic charlatans that dazzle and bamboozle the low-information voters that constitute the majority of the American electorate, presuming there is one available.  And in this instance, they have one Julian Castro tanned, rested, and....

.....not yet ready.  Currently he's only the mayor of San Antonio, Texas, hardly a high or broad enough platform from which to launch a bid for the presidency.  Plus, his home state is still deep, deep "red," and thus its governorship is way out of reach at the present time.  Ditto either of its U.S. Senate seats, for those who can't get it through their thick skulls that the federal upper chamber is where presidential ambitions go to die.  So although J.C. is without question "The Hispanic One," he's not in a position to "jack in" to the presidential "Matrix," as it were.

But a slot on a Hillary Clinton 2016 ticket, particularly if she sold it that way?  The Manchurian path might await:

A new provocative work by bestselling author Ed Klein claims Hillary Clinton's health problems are much more severe than she has publicly revealed.

"She had managed to keep her medical history secret out of fear that, should it become public, it would disqualify her from becoming president," writes Klein in "Blood Feud"....

Hillary fainted while she was working in her seventh-floor office at the State Department, not at home, as Reines told the media. She was treated at the State Department’s infirmary and then, at her own insistence, taken to Whitehaven to recover. However, as soon as Bill appeared on the scene and was able to assess Hillary’s condition for himself, he ordered that she be immediately flown to New York–Presbyterian Hospital in the Fort Washington section of Manhattan. When Reines subsequently released a statement confirming that Hillary was being treated at the hospital over the New Year’s holiday, it naturally intensified speculation about the seriousness of her medical condition.

While she was at the hospital, doctors diagnosed Hillary with several problems.

She had a right transverse venous thrombosis, or a blood clot between her brain and skull. She had developed the clot in one of the veins that drains blood from the brain to the heart. The doctors explained that blood stagnates when you spend a lot of time on airplanes, and Hillary had clocked countless hours flying around the world.

To make matters worse, it turned out that Hillary had an intrinsic tendency to form clots and faint. In addition to the fainting spell she suffered in Buffalo a few years before, she had fainted boarding her plane in Yemen, fallen and fractured her elbow in 2009, and suffered other unspecified fainting episodes. Several years earlier, she had developed a clot in her leg and was put on anticoagulant therapy by her doctor. However, she had foolishly stopped taking her anticoagulant medicine, which might have explained the most recent thrombotic event.

“The unique thing about clotting in the brain is that it could have transformed into a stroke,” said a cardiac specialist with knowledge of Hillary’s condition....

According to a source close to Hillary, a thorough medical examination revealed that Hillary’s tendency to form clots was the least of her problems. She also suffered from a thyroid condition, which was common among women of her age, and her fainting spells indicated there was an underlying heart problem as well. A cardiac stress test indicated that her heart rhythm and heart valves were not normal. Put into layman’s language, her heart valves were not pumping in a steady way."

I envision the Democrat equivalent to the Bush-Quayle '88 ticket.  Pappy Bush could never have gotten elected president on his own, but running for the "third Reagan term," and naming a young, dynamic (before the media destroyed him) conservative protégé as his running mate and heir apparent did the trick.  With the media propelling her candidacy, Hillary, seeking that "third Clinton term," and tapping Mayor Castro as her "wingman," could conceivably make that same template work, especially if the Tea Party fragments the Republican field again and precludes a Scott Walker GOP candidacy.  The Democrats would then have a lock on the next twelve years at minimum.  Sixteen if Hillary survived two terms.  But, more to the point, they'd have an insurance policy against Mrs. Clinton dropping dead, and they'd get their next Great Minority Hope to the throne years before it would otherwise have been possible and maintain hard-left continuity in the absence of an Obama coup attempt, perhaps rendering a later Castro coup attempt unnecessary, as the country would, if it hasn't been already, be "fundamentally transformed" beyond recovery.

Actually, it's the scenario I originally assumed back in 2008, with King Hussein in the "wingman" role.  Which means Castro, should he choose to run prematurely, will probably submarine Hillary! as well and go on to victory in November 2016.

Assuming, as has been rumored, that Castro doesn't accept a Cabinet post from The One, thus making him beholden to Obama Nostra first before La Clinton Nostra can even get to him.

All this scheming is enough to give one heart trouble, it really is.
