Obama Set To Release More Gitmo Prisoners

by JASmius

.....under the cover of the furor over....releasing Gitmo prisoners!  It's brilliant, I tell you, absolutely brilliant!  And people keep saying this man is "incompetent":

Some of the men held here for more than a decade have been drafting plans for work and marriage on the outside or studying languages, preparing for a not-too-distant future beyond the coiled razor wire that surrounds the U.S. prison perched at the edge of the Caribbean Sea.

Until the past week, they had good reason to believe their ticket out might be imminent, if not home then at least to another country. President Barack Obama and others in the administration say they are committed to closing the Guantanamo detention center and military officials say they can resume transfers at a moment's notice, just as they did with the May 31 swap of five Guantanamo inmates for a captured American soldier.

"All I need is the names and a country and we could do it all very, very efficiently," the commander of U.S. Southern Command, Marine General John F. Kelly, said in an interview Saturday at the start of a visit to the base he oversees.

But the current furor over the trade of the five Taliban prisoners for American "Sergeant" Bowe Bergdahl may have complicated the situation.

If there's anything that has surprised me in and about Barack Obama's White House tenure to date, it's been his failure to follow through on his '08 pledge to close Gitmo.  Clearly it wasn't as high a priority as ruinously running up the national debt, nationalizing American health care, cutting off any and all American energy supplies. and pretty much the rest of his domestic communization agenda.  But, as they say, second-term presidents tend to focus more on foreign policy, and in that regard we've seen his Syrian "red lines" fiasco, the surrender to Iran on its nukes, abandoning Ukraine to Vladimir Putin's tender mercies, surrendering to the Taliban in Afghanistan, and now emptying Gitmo like it was a fire drill jail break.

Don't believe for a single, solitary minute that the Bergdahl furor is going to "complicate" anything.  If the Regime cared about public opinion....hell, when have they ever cared about public opinion?  And why would they start now?  No, they'll probably have Gitmo emptied by the end of the year, if not sooner.  Maybe before November 4th so congressional Dems can run on it, like that'd be a genuine "selling point".  Remember, the more they outrage the public, the more popular they're convinced they become.

That's not "incompetence"; it's ideological megalomania, paid for in oceans of American blood.

Case in point:

"It's unfortunate that cleared people may well suffer because of the backlash over this," said Cori Crider, an attorney for the British legal rights group Reprieve who represents several men approved for transfer. "I hope the more sensible people in Congress — as well as the White House and the Defense Department who recognize that it's time to get this done, that it's a stain on America's image — aren't going to be bullied."

There's anything "sensible" about releasing illegal enemy combatants in the midst of an armed conflict that hasn't yet ended on both sides?  Seems to me that's bass-ackwards.  Just as America's "image" suffers a lot more from looking weak and foolish by turning loose a small army of bloodthirsty jihadists to return to the "battlefield" to resume mass-murdering Americans in a war that hasn't ended on their side than exercising the, well, sensible, as well as prudent and entirely precedented stance of keeping those berserkers locked up for the duration.

Just another illustration of how liberalism/leftism/socialism/ Obamunism is a death wish from which liberals/leftists/ socialists/Obamunists think they can exempt themselves.  A fallacy of which they will never be expunged given that even 9/11 taught them nothing.  And next time....well, perhaps that will be O's golden opportunity.....
