The dynamic is not at all difficult to understand: The Muslims want all out war and want the genocide of the Jews. The Jews want peace but have no way of attaining it, and the closest they can come to it is by giving the Muslims precisely the war they're seeking. The "cycle of violence" is being driven entirely by Hamas in this instance, as it has for the past decade of their occupation of Gaza.
The question is, is this situation bigger than just Hamas? Recall that in 2006, Hamas was the "lead-off batter" in a larger war involving Hezbollah and could have brought Syria into the conflict, and all of it orchestrated by - ta da! - Iran. Now consider that the Israelis have repeatedly declared that they will attack Iran's nuclear weapons facilities unilaterally if necessary to prevent an Iranian nuclear first strike against them. One way of distracting the Jewish State from pre-empting Iranian nukes is by distracting them via one of Tehran's terrorist tentacles like.....Hamas.
It's almost as if the mullahs are ready to give the world a "demonstration" and now have "center stage" all to themselves.
