BREAKING: Eric "The Red" Holder Resigns

Ding dong, the witch is dead:

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. will announce his resignation Thursday, multiple media outlets are reporting.

Sources familiar with the decision said Mr. Holder, 63, intends to leave the Department of Justice as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could last until next year, NPR first reported.

Mr. Holder has been discussing plans to step down with the president for several months, but finalized the plans earlier this month, a Justice Department source told ABC News.

“The attorney general plans to express his personal gratitude to the president for the opportunity to serve in his administration and to lead the Justice Department, which he will call the ‘greatest honor of my professional life,’” the source told ABC News.

That's the good news, folks.  The bad news is, Barack Obama isn't resigning with him.  Which means we can count on somebody even worse taking Holder's place:

Deputy Attorney General James Cole; Kathryn Ruemmler, the former White House counsel; Deval Patrick, the Democratic governor of Massachusetts; and at least three Democratic U.S. senators, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, have been mentioned by congressional and administration officials as qualified successors.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris has been a supporter and ally of Obama and is another potential candidate. Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan also has been mentioned at a possible successor.

Cole is a white male, so forget him.  Ruemmler is female, but she's also white, so scratch her.  Ditto McCasKILL and Klobuchar, in addition to which is that the Dems are not about to put two more Senate seats not up in this cycle up for grabs - although both Missouri and Minnesota do have Donk governors, so they could be a last resort.  Since Pryor's seat is in mortal peril anyway, he might have been a candidate if he wasn't also a white male.  And Bharara isn't white, but subcontinent Asians aren't high in the Democrat identity politics pecking order, and besides that, he's got testicles, so he's out.

That leaves Governor Patrick and Ms. Harris as O's two A-G finalists.  And my money is on.....

.....Kamala Harris.  She's black and a woman.  She's Eric Holder in a skirt.  The worst of both worlds.

This choice won't take his infernal majesty long.
