Growing Ebola Anxiety: Just the Crisis Obama Needs

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The hysteria has grown.  People are afraid to travel.  Officials warn of apocalyptic disruption to civilization.  The death toll could be in the thousands.  While politicians urge a travel ban from West Africa, emergency personnel are being told to be careful not to mention the word Ebola for fear of spreading widespread panic.  Ebola scams have emerged as the CDC runs in circles trying to figure out what the truth is.  Our healthcare personnel are learning as they go along, as political leaders scream that the White House is downplaying the dangers . . . but warn us not to panic.  Ebola-soaked materials are piling up toward the ceiling in a hospital in Dallas, and riots are erupting in West Africa over the measures being taken, and the fears that the government has manufactured this crisis.  The stock market is reacting with dropping investments, especially airline stocks.  And the progressives in government are just waiting, hoping for hysteria, waiting for the people to scream, "Protect us.  Gives us peace and safety.  We want more government!"

If more government is what you ask for, more government is what you will get.
