Chucky Schumer: Passing ObamaCare Was A Mistake

by JASmius

From the "Signs of the Apocalypse" file:

Democrats made a mistake by passing President Barack Obama’s health-care law in 2010 instead of focusing more directly on helping the middle class, third- ranking U.S. Senate Democrat Charles Schumer said today.

“Unfortunately, Democrats blew the opportunity the American people gave them” in electing Obama and a Democratic Congress in 2008 amid a recession, Schumer of New York said in a speech in Washington. “We took their mandate and put all our focus on the wrong problem - health care reform.”

Schumer said Democrats should have addressed issues aiding the middle class to build confidence among voters before turning to revamping the health-care system. He said he opposed the timing of the health-care vote and was overruled by other party members.

Well, now, that's funny, because I recall that "aiding the middle class" was precisely the canard on and under which Barack Obama and the Donk SuperCongress attempted to sell ObamaCare for the entire nine months of the 2009-2010 health wars.  I also vividly remember that "aiding the middle class" was the well-flogged justification for the "American Recovery & Reinvestment Act," in which almost a trillion dollars was printed up by "Helicopter Ben" Bernanke and squandered on The One's public employee union cronies.  But then, "aiding the middle class" is the purported justification for pretty much everything Democrats do, down to and including reupholstering their office furniture after that unfortunate communicable anal seepage problem their caucus doesn't like to talk about, so I think Chucky is babbling on about, effectively, nothing.

Still, it's remarkable to hear so high-ranking a Dem utter such heresy in public.  Then you remember that he's up for re-election in 2016, and it starts making a bit more sense.

On the other hand, Schum did also blurt this...."

To win in 2016, “Democrats must embrace government, not run away from it,” Schumer said.

....so your mileage may vary.
