House of Representatives Immigration Circus Vote

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Step right up and gather around, for the strangest show on Earth.  The Republicans, who claim to stand against President Obama on his unconstitutional, therefore illegal, immigration executive order, are going to hold a vote tomorrow just for show, and the show is the destruction of the American System.

The GOP seems not to understand "leverage," or they secretly want to overrun this country with unscreened, diseased, criminals who may also be terrorists from across our southern border.  How are they throwing away any leverage they may have on the immigration issue?  Tomorrow, the Republicans are planning to pass a long-term spending bill that doesn't defund the President's illegal amnesty by executive order.  Oh, they say they are voting against his amnesty policies, but they aren't going to defund it.  They plan, they say, to fight against his illegal actions some other way. . . next year.

What part of Ted Cruz's advice, "Give them nothing during the lame duck session," do they not understand?  What part of "Article I, Section 1, of the United States Constitution grants all legislative powers to the Congress, so executive orders that legislate are in direct betrayal of the United States Constitution, the law of the land," do they not get?

Immigration is a deal breaker for a lot of Republican voters, and conservatives that left the party primarily because of this kind of cowardice.  If the GOP won't fight on immigration now, don't expect them to next year, either.  They believe the propaganda.  They believe immigration is a losing issue for them, and yet the rest of America says otherwise.

During the lame duck session of Congress, the only leverage Republicans have over Reid and Obama regarding their illegal amnesty agenda is to deny funding for implementation of Obama's immigration policies.

Did the loud voice of the midterm elections mean nothing to these Republicans?  What about the vote in Oregon, a blue State, for God Sake, that voted 66% to repeal a "driver's licenses for illegals" law passed by their idiot legislators?

The GOP is giving away their leverage, and therefore has no way to stop Obama's unconstitutional, "with or without Congress," unilateral, unlawful changes to immigration law, which includes granting these unscreened law-breakers quasi-legal status, as well as work permits and Social Security numbers to those who are in the country.

Even Harry Reid supports tomorrow's planned House vote.  He knows it screws the GOP.  He loves it!

The actions by the Republican Party on this issue borders on suicidal.  The party will collapse if they keep up these tactics that spits in the face of national sovereignty, and allows us to be overrun with numbers we just can't contain.  Congress critters took an oath to uphold, and protect, the United States Constitution, and until they do so by using the power of the purse to block President Obama's unconstitutional executive orders, the GOP will continue to lose support, and be complicit in losing our republic.
