Washington Pro-Gun Protest Crackdown Coming?

by JASmius

I noticed this story in my neck of the woods yesterday, but I held off on posting about it because I just knew instinctively that there was going to be a typical Obama-era follow-up to it, and I was not disappointed:

Fed up with the passage of an 18½-page incoherent, rambling, unconstitutional gun control initiative that was bankrolled by billionaires, gun owners across Washington state held the largest felony civil disobedience rally in the nation’s history, brazenly titled “I Will Not Comply.” No one was hurt and no stores were looted. Between 1,000 and 3,000 lawful gun owners showed up openly armed at the state capitol in Olympia, Washington, on Saturday to defy the newly passed gun control law, I-594.

Organizer Gavin Seim made the extraordinary nature of the rally very clear, “This isn’t just a protest. We are here to openly violate the law.” Attendees publicly transferred their guns to each other in violation of I-591’s background check provisions, and some even bought and sold guns just a few feet away from law enforcement. A fire pit blazed throughout the rally, and at the conclusion, gun owners lined up to burn their concealed weapons permits. A petition was circulated affirming gun owners’ refusal to follow I-594, which ended with, “We pledge our blood. We will not comply.”

As the RSVPs in advance of the rally grew to over 6,000, the police – most who probably detest I-594 – decided not to enforce the law. The Washington State Patrol announced there would be no arrests for exchanging guns – not even for selling guns. Seim refused to obtain a permit to hold the rally, citing the right of people to peaceably assemble. [emphases added]

I would suggest that this is how it is done.  What is that expression we hear every Saturday?   "United we stand, combined, we kick butt"?  Well here were six thousand perfectly legal Evergreen State gun owners gathering en masse and daring the State to take them all away in handcuffs in maximally public fashion.  And the WSP demonstrated that they have far more honor, decency, patriotism, respect for the Constitution, and PR sense than the backers of I-594.

Almost all of them, that is:

A video posted to YouTube Saturday shows what appears to be a Washington state deputy sheriff explaining that armored vehicles are needed by police departments to confront “Constitutionalists” with firearms. According to Infowars’ Mikael Thalen, the footage was shot in Spokane Valley, Washington, a community that sits between Spokane and the Idaho state line.

Thalen said a local resident asked two deputies why vehicles designed for combat in places like Iraq and Afghanistan would be needed. The deputy responded by saying there are “a lot of constitutionalists and a lot of people that stockpile weapons, lots of ammunition.”

“They have weapons here locally,” the deputy added. Thalen said the shocking admission indicates that law-abiding gun owners who support the Constitution are under surveillance by local authorities and it solidifies concerns by many that conservatives are being targeted by law enforcement agencies.

"Constitutionalists" is, evidently, the leftwingnuts' new term for what they used to call "survivalists/militia nuts" back in the Clinton years.  Which, being a constitutionalist myself, doesn't shame me, but makes me even prouder to be one.

But it does strike one as more than a little....odd that law enforcement is supposed to "exercise restraint" to ridiculous, near-suicidal lengths when dealing with violent, raging, racist rioting, looting, arson, and murder perpetrated by thousands upon thousands of radical insurrectionists, but peaceful, law-abiding assemblages of citizens exercising their First Amendment right to "petition the Government for a redress of grievances" is supposed to be met by law enforcement with a militaristic crackdown reminiscent of Tiananmen Square.

Or it is until you learn the identity of the organization that is "re-training" law enforcement around the country:

Thalen said the talking points are not that surprising, given that the department has received training from the Southern Poverty Law Center, a liberal organization that has declared Christian organizations “hate groups” for opposing sodomarriage. [emphasis added]

Under whose, or what, authority has the SPLC been "re-educating" and politicizing law enforcement to turn them into a veritable federal secret police force?

I think we know....

How long will it be until an "I will Not Comply" rally is handled not like the Washington State Patrol  did, but as this storm trooper from Spokane Valley has been programmed? Not long, by my reckoning.
