Obama To Decree Free Community College

That's "United Soviet Socialist States of Obamerikastan," in case you were wondering.

I can't wait to see the newly-installed, GOP-controlled 114th Congress mobilize to undo this Executive Order, can you?:

Barack Obama rolled out a new plan Thursday to make two years of community college free, or nearly so, for millions of students across the country, a major [boondoggle] that the White House cast as changing the face of higher education.

Yeah, by making it even more expensive.

And yes, I am editing the Los Angeles Times story for accuracy.

The program, inspired by new initiatives in Tennessee and Chicago, could [indenture] up to nine million students, advisors said. At its heart is dedicated federal funding to cover 75% of tuition, with the states picking up the rest of the tab.

Aaaaaaand where is that federal power enumerated in the Constitution, your majesty?  Or the power to compel the States - the "parents" of the federal government, remember - to "pick up the rest of the tab"?

“What I’[m going] to do is to see the first two years of community college free for everybody who is willing to work for it,” Obama said in a video filmed on Air Force One and posted Thursday on Facebook, ahead of his planned visit Friday to a community college and technical center in Knoxville, Tennessee, as part of a trip designed to preview his policy plans for 2015.

How about for those who are willing to pay for it?  Compared to four-year colleges and universities, jucos are a rank bargain - not much more than a grand a quarter or semester.  That's affordable even for somebody working a part-time job.  Which is the primary means by which youngin's have been attending community college for decades.

But it won't be any more after King Hussein gets through goosing demand for it through the roof, and taking tuition rates right along with it, exactly the same way as with four-year schools.

What's that you say?  The Republican-controlled Congress will never give O what he wants?  What the hell does Congress have to do with anything anymore?  They're about as relevant as the Swiss Navy.

So why is The One pushing this giveaway?  Why, to try and regain ground with youngin' voters who deserted the Democrat Party in droves in the 2013-2014 election cycle, why else?

And then this follow-up story might have something to do with it also:

Dr. Sandra L. Stotsky, professor emerita at the University of Arkansas, recently said that Renaissance Learning’s latest report revealed that a large number of college freshman are reading at a seventh-grade level.

Stotsky, who received her Ed. D. from Harvard, is a well-known and respected figure in the world of education. She served on the Common Core Validation Committee in 2009-10 and, along with colleague James Milgram, professor of mathematics at Stanford University, refused to approve Common Core’s standards, which she called “inferior.”

In a recent interview with Breitbart Texas, Stotsky said:

We are spending billions of dollars trying to send students to college and maintain them there when, on average, they read at about the grade 6 or 7 level, according to Renaissance Learning’s latest report on what American students in grades 9-12 read, whether assigned or chosen. [emphases added]

What was it the noted scholar and educational expert Forrest Gump once said?  "Stupid is as stupid does".  In this case, by design.

So, by deliberate public policy, public school systems are churning out decadent, ignorant, illiterate....well, Obama voters.  Next question: Do you think that colleges and universities are being expected to pick up that slack?

Hardly:

Stotsky also pointed out that as a result of students reading on a lower level of difficulty and complexity in high school, colleges now assign a lower reading level of books as summer reading to incoming freshmen....

It’s not just Common Core’s standards and the curriculum teachers are putting into place to address those standards that are dumbing our kids down. Our colleges are contributing in their own way to the problem by the books they assign incoming freshmen to read in the summer for their first “common experience.”....

Based on the information available, it seems that our colleges are not demanding a college-level reading experience for incoming freshmen….However, our colleges can’t easily develop college-level reading skills if most students admitted to a post-secondary institution in this country read even high school-level textbooks with difficulty. Strong growth in reading starts in the elementary school. [emphases added]

This isn't a disaster Barack Obama wants to fix; a decadent, ignorant, illiterate electorate is precisely what he wants, because it will vacantly do as it's manipulated and commanded and elect Democrats in perpetuity.  This is a disaster he's going to force us to subsidize, whether we want to or not.

The late William E. Simon, Treasury Secretary to Presidents Nixon and Ford, once said that "mediocrity will not stretch".  This is why government cannot lift up the bottom of society but can only level the top.  When everybody's the same, everybody's poorer.  Prosperity cannot be commanded, and excellence cannot be bought.

Equality of result, in other words, produces really crappy results.  For which we all must pay.

Point to ponder: Why are the Seattle Seahawks headed for back-to-back Super Bowl championships?  Because coach Pete Carroll emphasizes, above all else, competition.  Constant, relentless, spirited competition.  Excellence.  Being the best each player can be, to create the best team in the NFL.

If Barack Obama were an NFL head coach, his team would be the Oakland Raiders (apt nickname, that).  And everybody in Oakland would be required to buy the enormously exorbitant season tickets, long past the seating capacity of O.co Coliseum, and attend each game, and cheer, and buy all the team's gear, as it posted 0-16 season after 0-16 season, because none of the players could read their playbooks.

Heck, he'd trade Derrick Carr for Johnny Manziel straight up.  Professional frauds have to stick together, after all.
