This (see above) is actually the second installment of U.S. military aid to the Islamic State - the first being all the U.S.-supplied military hardware that the Iraqi Army abandoned to them - assuming that ISIS can beat the Iranians to most of it:
The Pentagon is unable to account for more than $500 million in U.S. military aid given to Yemen, amid fears that the weaponry, aircraft and equipment is at risk of being seized by Iranian-backed rebels or al-Qaeda, according to U.S. officials.
With Yemen in turmoil and its government splintering, the Defense Department has lost its ability to monitor the whereabouts of small arms, ammunition, night-vision goggles, patrol boats, vehicles and other supplies donated by the United States. The situation has grown worse since the United States closed its embassy in Sanaa, the capital, last month and withdrew many of its military advisers.
In recent weeks, members of Congress have held closed-door meetings with U.S. military officials to press for an accounting of the arms and equipment. Pentagon officials have said that they have little information to go on and that there is little they can do at this point to prevent the weapons and gear from falling into the wrong hands.
“We have to assume it’s completely compromised and gone,” said a legislative aide on Capitol Hill who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
Well, there is one thing we could have done to prevent the weapons and gear from falling into the "wrong hands" - stay in Yemen and fight the Shiite and Sunni jihadists. But we don't engage in such "primitive," "Islamophobic," "nineteenth century behavior" in the Age Of The One, because "there's no such thing as jihadists". And once the Regime is through blooding, gutting, and hanging Israel for Hamas's butchering, I'm sure John Kerry's next destination will be Sanaa, there to negotiate a "fair" allocation of the above martial laundry list between Iran, al Qaeda, and ISIS, and bring back U.S. military advisers to train the latter two in the operation of their new air forces and navies.
Do I not sound sufficiently outraged? Sorry, can't help it. I knew over six years ago that I'd have to pace that particular reflex, or I'd have a stroke before I was fifty - or precisely the age I am now. I've never had any reason to regret that self-advice, because the surreality of the outrages just keep exacerbating. If I let myself get pissy, I'll lose all means of describing this eye-crossing perfidy/numbskullery.
Besides, it's awfully difficult to express oneself with only one side of one's body not paralyzed.
