If We Turn Our Backs on Israel

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The everlasting covenant God made with Abraham is a direct relationship between God and the Jewish people.  God used Abraham as a vehicle to bless all of the families of the Earth, a fulfillment that comes through Jesus Christ.  But God also issued a warning.  The people who blessed Abraham and his descendants would receive a blessing from God, but those who cursed them would receive a curse.

Genesis 12:3 - "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

That applies specifically to Israel because the everlasting covenant was passed to the Jewish people.

Psalm 105:9-10 - "Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; and confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant."

God established an everlasting covenant with Abraham, and his descendants, as a blessing of all people.  The covenant, however, focused on the land we now call Israel.  God deals with nations according to that covenant.  The everlasting covenant remains in place.  It has never been abrogated.

The covenant God instituted with Abraham was renewed and passed to Isaac, and includes all of Isaac's descendants.

Genesis 26:3-4 - "I will be with thee, and will bless thee' for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father. . . and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed."

The covenant God passed to Isaac and his descendants, was then passed to Jacob and his descendants.

Genesis 35:12 - "And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land."

The Jewish people are still under the everlasting covenant God made with Abraham; whoever blesses them will be blessed, and whoever curses them will be cursed.  God's covenant is based on His Holiness, and it cannot be broken.

Psalm 89:34-35 - "My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.  Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David."

God used Israel to reveal Himself.  He chose the Jewish people to be the vehicle for this revelation.  He used Israel to bring forth prophets and give the world His Scripture.  God called Israel a light and witness to the surrounding pagans, and he used the people, culture and genealogy to bring the Messiah to all of mankind.

The Bible reveals that nations who attempt to destroy his covenant with Israel, or stand against his chosen people, will be dealt with in judgment.  History is filled with tyrants that have tried to destroy the Jewish people, and prevent the rebirth of the nation of Israel.  Every attempt has failed, and the Jewish people have endured, and eventually became a nation once again.

The Jewish people were also colonists in the place that would become the United States of America prior to the United States becoming a independent country.  At the time of the Revolutionary War, 7,000 Jews lived in America, and they were emphatically supportive of the drive for independence.  Haim Salomon helped fund the Revolutionary War, and the Jewish banker from New York, when the American government was no longer able to borrow money to keep the war effort funded, borrowed money on his own credit for the purpose of backing the finances of the United States.  Salomon personally made large loans with no interest to many of the leading Americans of the Revolution.

Jews never suffered in America as they did in European nations.  The United States has been a blessing to the Israelites, and in 1790, President George Washington verbalized the love America has for the Jewish people.

"May the Children of the Stock of Abraham, who dwell in this land, continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other inhabitants; while everyone shall sit under his own vine and fig tree, and there shall be none to make him afraid."

America has blessed the Jewish People, and has been a strong ally of the State of Israel since its rebirth in 1948; and for that, America has been blessed.

Under the Obama administration, however, we have begun to turn our back on Israel, and the result, if this continues, will be judgment, and a curse upon the Land of Liberty.

Islam is intent on destroying Israel.  The tiny State of Israel is surrounded by their enemy.  Terrorist attacks and missile attacks against Israel have become a norm, and now the world is once again trying to pressure Israel to give up land for peace by giving in to a "two-state solution" that would give the Palestinians full control over all of the "occupied territories," which would eliminate Israel's buffer against attack, and move Muslim enemy closer to destroying Israel's existence.

Recently, when Israel retreated from Gaza, the immediate response was missile attacks and terror attacks.  If Israel does the same in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights, an immediate attack against Israel will be the result.  Meanwhile, the Obama administration is pressuring Israel to give in to the United Nation's demand for a two-state solution.  Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, is being treated as an enemy as the White House gives funding, aid, and comfort to the Muslim nations that surround Israel.  Iran is being given an opportunity to continue pursuing its nuclear goals, while Israel is being condemned for rejecting Palestinian statehood.

White House chief of staff Denis McDonough has warned Israel against annexing the West Bank, and said Netanyahu's prediction that a Palestinian state wouldn't come about on his watch was "so very troubling... We cannot simply pretend that these comments were never made."

The Obama administration was even actively involved in trying to unseat Netanyahu, funneling American tax dollars to Netanyahu's opponent in the recent Israeli national election.  Obama has said the U.S. must reevaluate its approach to pursuing Mideast peace because of Netanyahu's comments, and has entertained speculation the U.S. will be less willing to come to Israel's defense in the United Nations.

The minions of the Obama administration have condemned Israel for building settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and have accused Israel of "controlling another people (Palestinians)."  Some progressives in the United States, in their condemnation of Israel, have gone so far as to accuse the country of being an "apartheid" state when it comes to Israel's dealings with Muslims in the country.

McDonough received a standing ovation when he called out Israel's government for ongoing construction of settlements in the West Bank, when he said Israel cannot control another people forever, warning that such a move would be illegal and would contribute to Israel's "total isolation" from the international community.

"An occupation that has lasted more than 50 years must end," McDonough said.

As we continue to stand against Israel, try to force Israel to lose land to those that wish to destroy the tiny nation, and as we negotiate with Iran (which will in the long run assist Iran in building an arsenal that they can use to destroy Israel), where do we think America will stand regarding judgment from God?  Are we blessing Israel as we have always done, or is the Obama administration cursing Israel, thus inviting God's curse upon America?

While America's federal government pressures Israel to surrender her land for "peace," what calamities will befall America because we are not, as individuals, fighting to change the direction our country is headed regarding our relationship with Israel?
