Ted Cruz Signing Up For ObamaCare

by JASmius

Bad optics, as they say in the political game.  REALLY bad optics.

But under the circumstances, not anything he can really help:

One of the [Una]ffordable Care[-Less] Act's biggest foes will be signing his family up for ObamaCare after all, CNN reports.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz previously had been receiving health insurance benefits through his wife Heidi's job. But Cruz on Monday announced he will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, so his wife took an unpaid leave of absence for the duration of his campaign, and that makes her ineligible for company benefits.

So Mrs. Cruz is complying with the law by taking the unpaid leave of absence, and the only way the Cruz family can have access to health insurance is via ObamaCare.  As I say, more than a little embarrassing, but violating conflict of interest laws would be more so, so this is one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type circumstances.  But he knew that, and besides, knowing Senator Cruz as we do, he did, and will continue to, use it as an opportunity to rail against the UCLA and call for its blanket repeal.  Or, in short, this is another media non-story.

But then this caught my eye:

Heidi Nelson Cruz is a managing director at the Houston office of Goldman Sachs. [emphasis added]

Ted Cruz's wife has Wall Street connections.  Indeed, Ted Cruz may have married money, just like John Kerry did.

Should that matter?  Of course not.  WILL that matter?  You bet Theodore's long, lush lashes it will.

Just one more reason to cross Senator Cruz off the presidential candidate list.
