Remember how one she-hadist shut down American Sniper at the University of Missouri? Her counterpart [Lamees Mekkaoui] at the University of Michiganistan tried the same stunt, but, hearteningly, didn't quite succeed:
After a day filled with intense controversy [i.e. vehement jihadi-symp agitation], the University of Michigan reversed course late Wednesday night and decided to show the movie American Sniper at its originally scheduled time and place.
“The initial decision to cancel the movie was not consistent with the high value the University of Michigan places on freedom of expression and our respect for the right of students to make their own choices in such matters.
Ass-covering boilerplate, of course. But still refreshing to hear, no matter how insincere.
The university had cancelled the planned showing of the Iraq War movie after students, mostly Muslim and/or Arab, complained about it. The movie had been planned to be shown on Friday night at a social event for students.
That set off a firestorm of criticism – including from U-M football coach Jim Harbaugh, who tweeted: “Michigan Football will watch American Sniper! Proud of Chris Kyle & Proud to be an American & if that offends anybody then so be it!”
You know, I haven't been the biggest fan of Jim Harbaugh the last few years, my being a Seahawk fan and he having been the obnoxious head coach of the archrival San Francisco 49ers and all, but tweets like that one go along way towards rehabilitating his image with me.
Ditto U of M, which today has lived up to its mascot's character....
....until tomorrow, anyway.
In the mean time, enjoy the movie secure in the knowledge that somewhere, you've made Chris Kyle smile.
