National Day of Prayer, 2015

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Today is May 7, 2015, and the 64th annual National Day of Prayer.

The National Day of Prayer finds its roots in Thanksgiving.  Observed each year on the first Thursday of May, the event provides an opportunity to invite people of all faiths to pray for the United States.  Created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, the National Day of Prayer is a reminder that we are a nation founded upon Christian-Judeo Principles, and that the Founding Fathers forged America into existence with a firm reliance upon the protection of divine Providence.  During the Constitutional Convention, after weeks of failure by the delegates, Benjamin Franklin recommended that the attendees pray before each session of the convention.  From that moment in history was developed the tradition of prayer before each session of Congress.

As we navigate through a difficult period in the history of the United States, the National Day of Prayer serves as an encouragement for the Christian Community to intercede for our political leaders and their families, while also remembering our need for personal repentance and prayer.  During our prayers, let us ask the Lord for His healing upon America, and that His renewing power be made manifest as we humbly ask Him for His Blessings, and assistance as we navigate a great storm of tyranny, and ungodliness, in our culture.

During the National Day of Prayer today millions will gather to pray, and we here at Political Pistachio ask that you join us as we seek to return America to its Christian foundation.

Prayer changes things, and when we apply spiritual discipline, and make God our personal priority, God gives us the opportunity to touch and change hearts and lives through His Grace.  His hand is upon this nation, and it is up to us to continue to pray that His Mercy continues to grace this country, and that His Blessings continue to blanket our society despite the disobedience to Him that seems to be rising up in our culture.

Thank you for your prayers, and thank you for participating in this year's National Day of Prayer.  May God's Love fill your lives, and may God's Grace fill your heart and soul.

God Bless America, and my friends, God Bless You.
