If that's true, Doc, if you're gratefully not a politician, then forgive me, but what they hell are you doing running for president, then?:
Newly declared Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson told Newsmax TV Tuesday that his goal is to tear down the GOP establishment that has thrown "torpedoes" at him since he began considering a White House bid months ago.
"Probably the thing that surprised me the most is not so much the left-wing media attempting to stop me, but the torpedoes that come from the right," Carson, the retired head of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, told J.D. Hayworth in an exclusive interview on "Newsmax Prime."
Welcome to politics, Doc. Sheesh, you think Governor Walker or Senators Paul, Cruz, and Rubio haven't taken (and dished out, in Ted's case) a ton of "friendly fire"? It comes with the territory. Something that your proudly professed naivete simply further reveals how in over your head you really are. Or would anybody have trusted you to perform delicate neurosurgery if all you held was an A.A. degree in blimp-watching? What makes you think the presidency is an entry-level job?
"But the nice thing is all I have to do is tell the truth and stick to the right principles," Carson added. "I'm not a politician, have no desire to be a politician. You don't have to be a politician to know how to do what's right.
"You need to be a politician to do what's politically expedient — and we've had that for far too long. It's time for us to return to the values and principles that made this into a great nation."
Yes, you are a politician, Doc. You are. A particularly irritating politician at that in your pious, populist, pandering protestations that you're not one. And a naif politician that is whining about leaping into the bog of a presidential campaign and getting some of the mire on you, as though claiming apolitical status should serve as some sort of body armor from the rough & tumble that is the coin of that mucky realm.
Look, Doctor Carson, I like and immensely respect you. You are brilliant and accomplished and way smarter than I am. You're also "ball-a-this-a-beeg" courageous to have become a patriotic public spokesman for conservatism as an African-American in the Age Of O-tron. And you should have remained in that capacity. Instead you've allowed fanboys and fangirls to get in your ear, tickle your vanity, and convince you to become the Herman Cain of 2016, thus diminishing the impact of the role that established you by turning you into precisely the politician you claim not to be.
I've said it many times, and I'll say it again: Just because a man or woman gives a speech every last word of which you passionately agree with doesn't necessarily make that man or woman presidential timbre. The presidency is not an entry-level job. And there is not, nor has there ever been, any such thing as the "citizen-politician". Politics is a profession and a business. It always has been. And the top job in that business requires executive experience to carry it out and political experience to get elected to it.
Neither of which you have, Doc.
At one time you were not a politician, and had the choice of whether or not to become one. You made that choice. Now, for God's sake, own it.
UPDATE: Sorry, Ben Carson fans, but read the following and weep:
Like it or not, peeps, experience matters. And Dr. Carson has precisely none.
