CIA "Reassessing" ISIS After Bloody Attacks On Three Continents

by JASmius

Contrary to Obamunist belief, underestimating an existential threat does not mitigate it:

Three carefully timed "Bloody Friday" attacks that spanned three continents are leading U.S. intelligence agencies to reconsider an earlier opinion that the Islamic State is mostly a "regional threat."

No, seriously. Earlier this year, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told Congress that ISIS was a "regional threat that would probably only conduct operations in the Middle East," and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Martin Dempsey called ISIS "an internal conflict, internal to Islam."  This despite their Middle East conquests, their spreading to Afghanistan, Libya, and West Africa, their billions in oil revenues, their global recruiting reach via social media, their acquisition of weapons of mass destruction, their consistent vows to invade Europe, and their presence right on the other side of our former southern border,

The "jayvee team" they are not, which everybody seems to both grasp and take seriously except the Regime that is supposed to be protecting us.

The National Counterterrorism Center and the CIA are working together to determine if the murders at a French industrial plant, the mass shootings of swimsuit-clad beachgoers at a Tunisian beach resort, and the suicide bombing at a Kuwaiti mosque....

Hmm; missed that one.

....were coordinated by ISIS leaders or carried out by "lone wolves" in the name of the militant group, reports Politico.

But either way, the attacks will likely change how the United States and the Obama administration deals with ISIS attacks in three countries on Friday, which officials suspect may have been directed — or at least heavily influenced — by the militant group.

Why would these latest attacks change anything?  That ISIS is a global threat has been established for a full year now, and yet the Obama Regime hasn't done anything serious to resist them even in their home base of Iraq and Syria.  They continue to substitute delusional, diversionary derision for bona fide national defense, and the only thing that's producing is more and bigger attacks closer and closer to home.

ISIS is becoming a global threat because of its ability to "evangelize followers, retired Army Colonel Peter Mansoor, who helped create the U.S. military campaign against al-Qaida.

"This will only continue unless something is done to destroy ISIS and reduce its appeal to the extremist fringe in the Islamic community," he commented.

IOW, the Islamic community itself,  And that means the attacks will continue, growing and getting closer to our shores all the time, a crescendo that will culminate in the ultimate terror strike(s) in one or more American cities that butchers civilians by the tens or hundreds of thousands.

Perhaps that's why DHS is seeking to preemptively cover its ass about "potential" Independence Day "fireworks":

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says his department is encouraging law enforcement "to be vigilant and prepared" ahead of the July 4th holiday in the U.S. following attacks in France, Tunisia and Kuwait.

Johnson says people should attend Independence Day events as planned but "remain vigilant" and report any suspicious activity.

He says U.S. authorities will adjust security measures, including those unseen by the public, as necessary....

While there was no specific or credible threat of attack, one law enforcement official told USA Today that a new intelligence bulletin is alerting local colleagues to the ongoing threats posed by the Islamic State and other homegrown "extremists". The official was not authorized to comment publicly.

God willing, everything will be quiet.  But all it takes is one chink in the armor, one slip up, and countless Americans will die.

But don't worry, I'm sure that Commissar Johnson has plenty of formidable belittling insults ready to keep ISIS in its Middle East cage.
