New York City Islamic State Arrest

By Douglas V. Gibbs

ISIS is in the United States.  They have operatives on our shores.  We are at war, which is being waged by Islam, and our leaders are ignoring the threat as they run in circles blaming the man-made global warming hoax for everything.  The progressive agenda, it turns out, is more important than the safety of the United States against foreign invaders who are poised to upend our entire system of liberty.

In New York City, authorities have arrested a college student named Munther Omar Saleh, a 20-year-old that considers himself to be connected to Islamic State.  This is a guy who once quipped that al Qaeda is “too moderate.”  According to the suspect's own words, he plotted to attack targets in New York City on behalf of the Islamic State terror group.  He first became a subject of investigation on March 22, when a Port Authority police officer observed Saleh scoping out the George Washington Bridge.  The following day, Saleh returned, loitering on the other side of the bridge, looking around repeatedly while walking along the bridge.  When interviewed, he claimed he did not agree with the ideology of ISIS.

Saleh was arrested on June 7 after he and an unidentified cohort ran towards an undercover law enforcement car that was tailing them.

Once on the radar of federal investigators, Saleh has been watched closely.  While enrolled as a college student, he made extensive online searches on building explosives and eluding law enforcement, as well as using the internet to look up disguises, and New York landmarks.  Authorities determined, based on the evidence available, that Saleh was working to prepare an explosive device for detonation in the New York metropolitan area on behalf of Islamic State.

After searching Saleh's computer, agents discovered several files containing ISIS propaganda.  According to Saleh’s computer activity, Saleh had been making online inquiries into electronic circuitry and weapons, including extensive research into the construction of pressure cookers.

In a May conversation with a confidential informant posing as an ISIS sympathizer, Saleh said he was in New York and potentially plotting an attack, the feds claim: “Well I‘m in NY and trying to do an Op,” according to court papers.

“Based on my training and experience, I understand ‘Op’ to be shorthand for ‘operation’ and to refer to an effort to conduct a terrorist attack,” a federal agent states in court papers.

Saleh later stopped talking to the informant on orders from superiors.

Leading to Saleh's arrest on June 7, Saleh's driving included “anti-surveillance” maneuvers, which included driving with the lights off and suddenly accelerating and braking.

At 4 a.m., the pair stopped at a red light on 20th Avenue near the Whitestone Expressway when they got out and approached a law enforcement car that was tailing them.

After returning to their car, they exited again and “began to run towards the law enforcement vehicle,” according to court papers.

Additional agents swooped in and arrested both men. A folding knife was found in the waistband of Saleh’s cohort, papers state.

Saleh appeared in Brooklyn federal court Saturday and was ordered held pending his next court date.
